Isuzu FA Vase - Draw for the First Round Proper
Mon 23rd September 2024 | FA Challenge Vase | By Martin Fallon
The draw for the First Round Proper of the Isuzu FA Vase has been released.
A whopping 21 of our sides progressed through in the Vase at the weekend, and they will be joined by Ashville, Irlam, Ramsbottom United and West Didsbury & Chorlton who receives exemptions to this stage due to their performance last season. Charnock Richard and South Liverpool both join in the Second Round.
For the purposes of the draw at this stage, the country is split into five zones, with most of our clubs in Zone 1 which covers the North East, North West and Yorkshire. Several of our southern based clubs though are in Zone 2 which goes across the middle of the country, leading to some interesting ties!
Due to having 25 teams still in it, it is unsurprising that there are a number of all-NWCFL ties with six taking place. Daisy Hill v Ashton Town is something of a local derby with just 7.5 miles separating the two, whilst Chadderton v Bury will see two of the top six in the Premier Division face each other. West Didsbury & Chorlton v Stockport Town could be a great game also, the two having met in the Vase before in 2017 in a game that finished 4-3.
The southern sides we mentioned see Market Drayton Town drawn at home to Hereford Pegasus for the second successive season, Hereford winning that 5-0 last season. There are three new teams though who have never played NWCFL sides before. Yaxley, who are just south of Peterborough, face a 200-mile round trip to Stoke to face Foley Meir, whilst Abbey Hulton United face a trip to Rothwell Corinthians who are just to the west of Kettering. Allscott Heath may as well make a holiday out of their away trip, as they face a 308-mile round trip to Skegness Town.
That's not the longest journey though, with Northern League side Marske United, former Semi Finalists in 2018, facing a 310-mile round trip to Ashville!
Of the rest, Padiham are at home to Horden Community Welfare, the only other Northern League side that our sides face. Abbey Hey, Darwen, Barnoldswick Town, Irlam and New Mills all face off against sides from the Northern Counties East League.
