Isuzu FA Vase - Draw for the Second Round Proper

Mon 21st October 2024 | FA Challenge Vase
By Martin Fallon

The draw for the Second Round Proper of the Isuzu FA Vase has been released.

14 of our 21 sides in action at the weekend progressed through in the Vase to the Second Round, and they will be joined by Charnock Richard and South Liverpool who received exemptions to this stage due to their performance last season. This gives us 16 of the 128 teams still left in the competition!

Given the regional nature of the competition at this stage, all-NWCFL ties are inevitable but there are only three which gives us a great chance for more teams progressing.

One First Division side will be in the Third Round Proper as South side Winsford United take on North side Darwen. Atherton LR have another chance of taking a Premier Division scalp as they travel to Abbey Hey, whilst there is an all-Premier Division clash as South Liverpool take on Chadderton.

Ashton Town have a fellow Step 6 side as Northern League Division Two side FC Hartlepool visit them, with West Didsbury & Chorlton travelling to a side in that league as they head to the North East to take on Barnoldswick Town's conquerers Ryton & Crawcrook Albion. Charnock Richard could also be heading to the North East to face North Shields, but the 2015 FA Vase Winners have to overcome Wakefield in a postponed tie.

Ashville's reward for their superb win over Marske United on Saturday is a home tie against another Step 6 side, with NCEL First Division side Wombwell Town travelling to the Wirral. Three of our sides also travel to sides in in the top six in the NCEL Premier Division at the moment, with Padiham heading to Albion Sports, New Mills going to Hallam and Ramsbottom United visiting former NWCFL side Silsden.

The southern sides in our league are in a different section of the draw so they end up with opponents from the Midlands. Two sides will be at home from sides in the United Counties League Premier Division North, with Market Drayton hosting Bourne Town and Sandbach United hosting Heanor Town. Abbey Hulton could also be travelling to a side in that league if Boston Town win their postponed game from Saturday, if not then they will be visiting Midland League side Atherstone Town.
