The draw for the Second Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup has been released.

Having started with 23 clubs in the Extra Preliminary Round, we are now down to just three Premier Division sides who are still involved.

Details of the draw are below that involve NWCFL sides are below:

THE EMIRATES FA CUP SECOND QUALIFYING ROUND
SATURDAY 14th SEPTEMBER 2024

WINNING CLUB TO RECEIVE £3,375 LOSERS RECEIVE £1,125

Campion or Blyth Spartans v Bury
Curzon Ashton v Lancaster City or Barnoldswick Town
West Didsbury & Chorlton v Darlington

It was a successful weekend for our three remaining clubs still in the competition this weekend, as Bury won 2-0 away at Garforth Town while West Didsbury & Chorlton saw off Silsden 4-2 at their Brookburn Road home. Barnoldwick Town held Lancaster City to a 0-0 draw and host them in a replay tomorrow night.

Bury's reward for reaching this stage of the competition for the first time is a trip to either Northern Counties East Premier Division side Campion or Northern Premier League East side Blyth Spartans, who drew 1-1 on Saturday and so will do battle again during the week. Campion took the lead in that through last season's First Division North Leading Goalscorer Zak Khan, who netted 36 goals for Route One Rovers last campaign. Blyth levelled with 15 minutes remaining to set up the replay in the North East on Wednesday evening. Campion had one season with us in 2021/22 in the First Division North and therefore played Bury AFC home and away that season. Bury won both fixtures 2-1 while Campion triumphed by the same scoreline in the Edward Case Cup. Campion have since been promoted to Step 5 after winning the league on their first season back in the NCEL and they have faced three NWCFL sides since leaving, winning one and drawing two, the last being in the FA Cup last season when they lost at Wythenshawe. Blyth Spartans are notorious for their previous FA Cup exploits, and reached the Third Round Proper as recently as 2014/15. It was all the way back in September 2004 the last time they played a NWCFL side in a competitive fixture, when Skelmersdale United were victorious 2-0. They have faced two other NWCFL sides in the past, both in the FA Cup of which they won both.

West Didsbury & Chorlton are also in previously unchartered territory and they have drawn Darlington at home. Darlington are currently in the National League North (Step 2) and somewhat unsurprisingly have never played a side from our league in a competitive fixture, having been a Football League side for the vast majority of their history. The club were expelled from the National League at the end of the 2011/12 season, reforming in the Northern League as "Darlington 1883". After a first time promotion, the side spent just three seasons going through the Northern Premier League, and for the last eight seasons have played in National League North. Their best FA Cup run was reaching the last 16 in 1957/58, knocking out Chelsea along the way! In modern times, they reached the Second Round Proper in 2020/21 before losing to Bristol Rovers.

Barnoldswick Town will travel to Curzon Ashton in the next round should they get the better of Lancaster City at the second attempt. Curzon were founder members of the NWCFL in 1982, spending five seasons with us before being promoted when the Northern Premier League expanded, despite finishing 19th out of 20 clubs! They returned to us in 1998/99 and were with us again for eight seasons before again being promoted due to a Northern Premier League expansion! Since then they have progressed upwards and since 2015/16 have played in the National League North. Since leaving they have played 35 games against our sides in the FA Cup, FA Vase and Manchester Premier Cup. Their most recent was beating both Droylsden and Wythenshawe Town in the Manchester Cup last season, while their last FA Cup tie against a side from the NWCFL was a 4-0 win over Ashton Athletic all the way back in August 2013!

All ties will be played on the weekend of Saturday 14th September 2024 and we wish all of our clubs the best of luck!
