Clubs show their respects over Remembrance weekend

A number of NWCFL Football clubs were out over the weekend at respective town and community remembrance ceremonies to pay their respects to the fallen. Over the years there have been many ties with our member clubs to the armed forces and to this day a number of our players are involved in the forces either directly or on a part-time basis. It was evident over the weekend that clubs were strongly represented and one such club was Daisy Hill.
Daisy Hill manager Lee Hill represented the club during the local Remembrance Day Parade in Westhoughton on Sunday. The Daisy boss spent 22 years enlisted in the Army, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant in the Royal Engineers, and still retains a link with the regiment. He took part in the parade in his full military uniform, and laid a wreath on behalf of the club at the War Memorial in the centre of Westhoughton during the ceremony.
“I’ve been involved in the parade for the past few years”, said Lee. I’ve got a good relationship with a number of local councillors who have invited me down to a few events, and it has grown from there.
“A range of different sections of the armed forces are represented, and it’s always a good turn out, the people in Westhoughton always come out in good numbers. It’s my home town and my home town’s ceremony, so it’s nice to be involved and to lay a wreath”.
