It is with regret that we announce the passing of League President Bob Eccles.

Bob was a founding committee member of The North West Counties Football League when the League was formed in 1982, following the amalgamation of The Lancashire Combination and The Cheshire League. As well as his lengthy service with the League, which saw him serve in a number of roles, including Grading Chairman, and since 2021 as League President, he was also involved at his local club, Darwen FC, holding a number of positions including Chairman and President.

Paul Lawler, Chair of The North West Counties Football League, said: “It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of League President, friend and colleague Bob Eccles. Bob was a founding committee member of the League, serving on the committee from its inception in 1982 following the amalgamation of the Lancashire Combination and Cheshire League, and was heavily involved in Darwen FC, serving as Chair and President of the club. His passion for the game and for The North West Counties Football League was infectious and although he was unable to participate directly in the running of the competition in later life, he still kept up to date with the goings on from around the League. My condolences on behalf of the League to his wife Rosemary and his family at this difficult time.”

Bob will be remembered fondly by everyone involved with the League and our condolences from the football family to his family at this difficult time.
