Programme of the Year

Despite the NWCFL being at Step 5 and 6 of the non-league pyramid, our clubs often produce Matchday Programmes that would not look out of place at the very top of the pyramid.

Matchday Programmes have been part and parcel of going to a game since football began. In 2013, a programme from the 1882 FA Cup final between Blackburn Rovers and Old Etonians sold at auction for a new world record of £35,250!

I don't think any of our clubs programmes will sell for that in the future, but even at our level there is an immense amount of pride by the teams at each club who produce their programmes. We are all volunteers, but many programmes are borderline professional.

In the NWCFL, a programme is compulsory at all League, Macron Cup, First Division Cup and Play Off games. It has to contain your legal status, and we insist on clubs putting in adverts for our sponsors and charity partners.

Many are still physical in nature, although club's can request to produce an online programme only. Although if you are designing one, why not print it? As well as the league information, clubs obviously can sell their own programme adverts which bring in revenue.

After each game, clubs have to send a copy of their programme into the league. The league collate them, and at the end of the season, a small sub-committee is put together. All members cannot be connected with a club, with the committee looking through the programmes for professionalism, variety of content, interesting facts and appeal before choosing a winner for each division.

All programmes are then sold with any proceeds going to charity, and this year the takings were over £500.

It was a very close race in all divisions this year for the Programme of the Year, but congratulations go to MACCLESFIELD FC, BURY AFC and WEST DIDSBURY & CHORLTON FC who were the divisional award winners.
