Mid-Cheshire Senior Cup Final triumph for Northwich Victoria

Northwich Victoria rounded off the season by lifting the Mid-Cheshire Cup, after a penalty shoot out win over Winsford United at Wincham Park.
A keenly contested game ended with the sides tied at 1-1 after 90 minutes, and penalties were therefore needed to settle the destination of the trophy.
The shoot out went to sudden death, but Kieron Kenny struck the winning spot kick to ensure that Vics lifted the trophy for the first time since 2012.
Vics created the better of the chances throughout, but after a goalless first half, it was Winsford who took the lead 17 minutes from time when David Short rifled a cracking effort home from 20 yards.
But Vics levelled five minutes later when Kieron Kenny rose to meet a corner kick at the far post to head home the equaliser, and it was Kenny who struck the winning penalty in the shoot out to seal victory for Vics.
Vics manager Steve Wilkes said:
"I'm really pleased at the win, thoroughly deserved after the season we've had, and I feel it was a travesty that we haven't won the game tonight.
"We missed so many chances and then they scored a great goal with about 15 minutes to go, and you think it's not going to be.
"But we were a goal down against Histon and Sholing and Chertsey and came back, there's great belief in the dressing room, and I think even the most hardened Winsford fan would agree that the right team won.
"After getting beaten on penalties in the Vase semi-final against Chertsey, the lads showed character and stood up to the test again.
"We had nine people put their hands up to take penalties, which is good.
"When we practised penalties before the Chertsey game, Kieron Kenny was brilliant and he wwas going to be one of the penalty takers in teh shoot out at Chertsey.
"But he got cramp towards the end of the game and we had to change it. I'm not saying that made a difference on the day (at Chertsey) but it was good to see him score tonight.
"The club is a good place to be at the minute".
