Prestwich Heys have only played one League game this season but they are already in a Cup Final! Yes, theres a slight twist to this tale as they face Lancaster City this evening in the final of the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy from the 2019-20 season.
Prestwich Heys started their campaign back in October 2019 away at Padiham, they needed Penalties to progress as they went through 6-5. It was penalties again in the second round as they saw off West Didsbury & Chorlton, 5-4 the score in that one. In December 2019 Heys progressed through the quarter finals with yet another away win but this time in the regular 90 minutes after a 5-2 win at former NWCFL side, Colne.
In the semi-Finals, Prestwich were awarded a walkover as Bamber Bridge could not field a side, this game was scheduled to take place in March 2020 which as we know, is when Covid-19 was really starting to take hold. Lancaster secured passage through the semi-finals just a week earlier with a win over Atherton Colls/
The final takes place at the Lancashire FA County Ground in Leyland this evening and is scheduled for a 730pm kick off.
