We were delighted to catch up recently with the Reusch UK First Division South Goalkeeper of the Month award winner for December 2024.

Abbey Hulton United Goalkeeper Danny Roberts received the award from League Ambassador Andrew Reid who carried out the presentation on behalf of the League and our sponsors Reusch UK. He recieves a pair of Goalkeeper Gloves from one of Reuch UK's leading range of Goalkeeper products.

Danny is a veteran of this league who started off in the Leek Town youth team before joining Stone Dominoes in 2009/10, and actually won Goalkeeper of the Month for Stone in April 2010! He rejoined Leek before switching to Norton United where he was instrumental in them winning the 2013/14 NWCL Premier Division championship, as well as another Goalkeeper of the Month in April 2014.

A succession of other clubs have followed, notably Witton Albion but also Glossop North End, Alsager Town and Congleton Town in the NWCFL. He joined Abbey Hulton United in the summer and played in their FA Vase games against Rothwell Corinithians in October and Atherstone Town in November.

December started with his third FA Vase start for Abbey Hulton, resulting in Abbey Hulton reaching the Fourth Round for the first time in their history after a 4-2 win over Droitwich Spa. Roberts contributed with a number of fine stops in this game.

He then retained the jersey for the league game with Alsager Town, being denied a clean sheet with Alsager scoring a consolation in the last minute. He did keep a clean sheet though in the final game of the month as Abbey Hulton won 9-0 at Market Drayton Town.

Danny has has come in and big a presence to the team and made some great saves when needed.

Congratulations Danny!
