Quotes from the Weekend: Matchweek 19

Tue 3rd December 2024 | Manager Reactions
By Jay Cooper

With the majority of NWCFL teams in action across the weekend, there was plenty of scope to speak to club managers for their opinions on what their teams produced in their 90 minutes.

Premier Division:

Ryan Donnellan, of Charnock Richard (Prestwich Heys 0-4 Charnock Richard)

“It was always in the back of my mind that today could potentially be a difficult encounter, with the new management team in place at Heys. They also have a lot of new players, and they’re fighting to get off the foot of the table.

“We decided to set up more offensively and get on the front foot early, and this paid off. We went in at half time 2-0 up. Early in the second half, we had to soak up some pressure from Prestwich, but once we got a foothold back in the game, we began to dominate once again and ultimately getting our third goal killed the game off. That gave us the opportunity to make some changes. Getting the fourth was a big relief and it was fantastic to get back to winning ways.”

Martin Ryman, of South Liverpool (South Liverpool 3-2 Litherland REMYCA)

“REMYCA started better, we were slow to come out the traps. They were unlucky not to score before they did. We found our feet as the half went on, created a few chances, but I think 0-0 at half time was fair.

“The second half started even, and Weaver scored a good lob over their keeper, but we sat back too much and got punished for it. REMYCA scored a couple of quick goals. We made some substitutions which really made a difference and we got that equaliser with 15 mins left - one of our changes, Charlie Glennon, got the assist for that.

“And then with 5 minutes left, Glennon got on the end of a cross and put a header in the top corner to give us that lead. I think we probably deserved to edge out that win, and with the position we're in, we take any point and any win we can get on the board. It was a great win, and a great morale boost ahead of the Vase next Saturday.”

First Division North:

Tommy Lawson, of Skelmersdale United (Maine Road 1-2 Skelmersdale United)

“Playing a team on the brink of the playoffs was never going to be easy, but I’m so, so proud of the performance that our lads produced.

“That’s the way to celebrate your birthday, as I did! We put out a really good performance and I got to relax in the evening and enjoy it!”

First Division South:

Glyn Norman, of Cammell Laird 1907 (Cammell Laird 1907 5-0 Market Drayton Town)

“Against the in-form team in the league, we produced our best 90 minutes since I arrived at the club. Every one of the boys worked their socks off with 9/10 or 10/10 rated performances all over the pitch.

“We've been leaking goals heavily recently, so the clean sheet was just as satisfying as the five goals. Now it's about getting some consistency and putting a decent run of results together.”

Adam Wall, of Stafford Town (Eccleshall 2-6 Stafford Town):

“Saturday was a brilliant win over our local neighbours. What's a little mind blowing for me is we weren’t great today, but we still won comfortably. Eccleshall, to be totally fair, were the better team for large spells in the first half, but we were ruthless going forward.

“We broke at will and finished our chances when we made them while defending as well as we could, albeit uncomfortably at times. It was one of those days where it went our way, but we will take it! And credit must go to Patryk Mazukiewicz for his four-goal haul!”
