Quotes from the Weekend: Matchweek 17
Tue 19th November 2024 | Manager Reactions | By Jay Cooper
With the majority of NWCFL teams in action across the weekend, there was plenty of scope to speak to club managers for their opinions on what their teams produced in their 90 minutes.
Premier Division:
Dave McNabb, of Bury (Bury 8-0 Longridge Town)
“I thought our lads were excellent on Saturday. I felt like we had dropped our standards in a number of areas over recent weeks, and we had a great meeting with staff and players before training on Thursday and addressed those concerns.
“The players came out and gave us the exact reaction that we were looking for. Full credit to them for their performance and the result.”
Ben Greenidge/Carl Taylor, of Chadderton (South Liverpool 4-6 Chadderton)
“We were back at South Liverpool for the second time in seven days, and after the disappointment of the Vase, our lads were determined to put things right! We started well and, in the first half, played some of our best football this season, racing into a 3-0 lead.
“We didn’t let up in the second half, making it 5-0 before South pulled two goals back in a short space of time. We made it 6-2 and, being honest, we got sloppy and complacent in the last five minutes and conceded a further two goals.
“We weren’t happy about that, as our performance deserved a more favourable scoreline than 6-4, but we were by far the better side on the day. We took the three points and hopefully we can push on from this result after a few disappointing weeks recently.”
Gary Moore, of Lower Breck (Lower Breck 5-0 Glossop North End)
“It was a fantastic second half performance from our lads in what you could say was a dominant performance overall. Our goalkeeper was pretty untroubled for 90 minutes.
“We played some quality football, equally matched by some quality goals and assists. The lads have found their footballing flow again in recent weeks, and long may it continue, as it's a pleasure to watch when it all clicks.”
First Division North:
John Salanki, of AFC Blackpool (Route One Rovers 2-3 AFC Blackpool)
“We knew this was not going to be an easy game. Route One Rovers are a good passing team, but we have been very good ourselves recently and knew that if we played like we have been doing leading to this game, then then our goal of winning five, matches in a row would be achievable.
“We grew into the game as it went along, and I feel we thoroughly deserved the three points. It was another spirited, quality performance from our boys.”
Arron Ripley, of Nelson (Skelmersdale United 0-5 Nelson)
“We put in a five-star performance away at Skelmersdale on Saturday. The clean sheet was very pleasing! As was the number of chances that we created for the full 90 minutes, which was brilliant to see.
“We knew, once it was 2-0 at half-time, that we really needed to try and get our goal difference up, so we came out in the second half with a real intensity. We now have a huge game away at unbeaten-at-home Euxton Villa to prepare for.”
First Division South:
Jon Beaumont, of Abbey Hulton United (Abbey Hulton United 3-0 Cheadle Heath Nomads)
“Cheadle was a tough game for us as they are a strong team and very well drilled. We got off to a flying start with our opening goal within the first minute from skipper Matt Ward. After that, we controlled the first half and pushed hard to get another goal before half time, but we went in 1-0 at the break.
“In the second half, Cheadle came out and pressed us well, but we managed to keep our cool and limit any chances they tried to create. On the 58th minute from a free kick, Aidam Blaise managed a great header back across the box to lob the goalkeeper and give us the two-goal lead.
“We then made a few changes and managed to get Kie Brown free in the box to convert another header, and we then played the game well and controlled ourselves to get our third clean sheet in a row, which is very important and something that we have been working on.”
Liam Kelly, of Eccleshall (Alsager Town 2-3 Eccleshall)
“A massive win on the road for us to continue our recent good form. That's four away wins on the bounce and just one defeat in our last six league fixtures. We made hard work of yesterday’s win, but football is a results-based business, and I was delighted to come away with all three points.
“Having a couple of new faces added to what we already thought was a squad capable of reaching the play-offs has really kicked us on and the group is continuing to work hard both on and off the pitch to make sure we make this season a success.”
