Quotes from the Weekend: Matchweek 16

With the majority of NWCFL teams in action across the weekend, there was plenty of scope to speak to club managers for their opinions on what their teams produced in their 90 minutes.
Isuzu FA Vase:
Paul Marshall, of West Didsbury and Chorlton (Ryton and Crawcrook Albion 0-2 West Didsbury and Chorlton)
“We had a great win on Saturday. It was a difficult place to go; the pitch was very lively and the opposition playing very direct, trying to get the ball in our box from any part of the pitch.
“We defended incredibly well and took our chances to come away with the win. It was a three-hour bus journey to get there, so winning made it a great day all round.”
Dean Jones, of Winsford United (Winsford United 6-1 Darwen FC)
“We are on an outstanding run of form at the moment. We’re unbeaten in 15 – winning 14 of those – and in every game we can't wait to go and show what we can do. The lads have shown a real winners’ mentality to keep working hard for these results, and the support from the fans has been incredible. We hope to keep pushing on and repaying that support as the season progresses!”
Edward Case Cup:
Matty Atherton, of Euxton Villa (Droylsden 2-3 Euxton Villa)
“A huge credit to my management team who, in my absence due to work, managed to turn around us despite looking into the abyss at half time. A Jekyll and Hyde performance that has come to typify our away form as of late, we needed a rally cry from in the dressing room including a raft of substitutions and a change of shape at half time which then paid dividends as the boys went on to make a 2-0 score line 3-2 within the space of 20 minutes.
“Credit too to the players to be able to show the character and grit to turn it around in front of an always lively Droyslden crowd of just shy of 500. It’s great to progress in the cup after we lost in the final last year, hopefully taking us one step closer to exercising those demons.”
Premier Division:
Andy Harrison, of Colne (Stockport Town 1-3 Colne)
“We are absolutely delighted to get that first league win of our league season against a really good Stockport Town side. We've worked so hard to assemble this squad and we're now starting to see that hard work come off on the pitch.
“We've got a mountain to climb and we're under no illusions about how tough our job is to stay in this division, but we’re heading in the right direction and have a real belief amongst the players.”
Richard Brodie, of Glossop North End (Longridge Town 0-1 Glossop North End)
“I want to win every game. We did well in the 0-0 against Ramsbottom, who are top of the talbe, and then we won 5-0 in the cup on Tuesday night. So again, we've kept another clean sheet. And I'm not going to sit here and say we deserved the win on Saturday, because I thought it was a bit of a smash-and-grab, to be honest.
“I thought they played a lot of really good football. We had the best chances in the game. This is the second of five away games on the bounce, and we've now won two away games in a row.
“We always do our homework on the opposition, and we know that we’ve got more tough games coming up. We’ve got more long travels, but we'll look after ourselves. We'll have a look at our opponents, and if we can just keep doing what we're doing and building that foundation from the back, going forward. We've got some very, very talented players going forward and create chances and score goals.”
Jack Edwards, of Pilkington (Pilkington 3-2 Prestwich Heys)
"We're delighted to take the three points in a really important game. Despite going 1-0 down, we kept on going and after a brilliant equaliser we really capitalised."
"We grew even more in confidence which saw us score three times in six minutes and claim the three points."
First Division North:
Roy Mason, of Steeton (Steeton 1-0 Ashton Athletic)
“I thought that it was a very tight game that could have gone either way and it was always going to take something special to win it. Thankfully, we were the ones that were able to provide it.
“I was pleased for the lads because they have performed really well over the last few weeks, and we are now finally beginning to get the results the performances have warranted.”
First Division South:
Darren Moore, of Runcorn Town (Shawbury United 1-2 Runcorn Town)
“It was a big three points for us today. It was a game that we just had to win, and I think we thoroughly deserved it today. To go down to ten men after 20 minutes for the second game on the bounce was disappointing, but, like our win over AFC Liverpool, our lads showed great resilience, defended superbly, and as a unit, we were solid whilst still creating good chances up top.
“The red card was a bit dubious in my opinion, but a review will clear that one up, I hope. Overall, a big congratulations to our boys. That’s three wins on the bounce now, with another massive game at home to Camell Laird 1907 next week, which we are all up for. The spirit in the dressing room is really good, with a nice little buzz around the club at the moment. Onto the next game!”
