Quotes from the Weekend: Matchweek 14

Tue 29th October 2024 | Manager Reactions
By Jay Cooper

With the majority of NWCFL teams in action across the weekend, there was plenty of scope to speak to club managers for their opinions on what their teams produced in their 90 minutes.

Premier Division:

Simon Heaton, of Abbey Hey (Abbey Hey 2-1 Glossop North End):

“The game didn't come to life for us until the 90th minute, and the substitutions that we made late on made all the difference.

“It was great to be on the right side of a few late goals, as it's happened against us a few times already this year. Overall, it was a great to get the win from, if I’m being honest, a fairly dull game.”

First Division North:

John Salanki, of AFC Blackpool (Holker Old Boys 2-4 AFC Blackpool):

“It was a very god day for us. We came up against a good side in Holker Old Boys, who have been top of the league in places this season. We started brightly and put them under a lot of pressure.

“The lads followed our game plan, and I thought we thoroughly deserved the three points on the day. We are all very happy with that result.”

Dave Jones, of Atherton LR (Maghull 2-4 Atherton LR):

“It was a difficult game for us against a strong Maghull side - their home form has been brilliant this season.

“I was extremely proud of the group on Saturday. They had to put the hard yards in on during the game to get through the difficult moments when Maghull were asking plenty of questions.

“We took our chances well throughout and defended our box very well in the second half. All the substitutes made a positive impact off the bench to play their part in the three points, and they proved the value of having such a strong squad like we have at the moment.”

First Division South:

Dan Dawson, of Market Drayton Town (Market Drayton Town 8-2 Allscott Heath):

“This was a local derby that meant a lot to our fans, and we started very quickly! However, some frustrating play during the first half led to us going in level at halftime, which we knew we could do better than!

“The lads reacted to what was asked of them during the break and really turned on the style to seal an emphatic 8-2 derby day win! I couldn’t be more delighted!”

Declan Swan, of Sandbach United (Sandbach United 1-0 Shawbury United):

“Hopefully we can add more wins to this good run we’re on at the moment - we’re really looking for that to continue.

“Winning breeds winning and, as cliche as it sounds, after Saturday’s clean sheet, we now just have our attention set on the game in midweek against Allscott Heath. It’s a Cup match, and it’s a game that we will be taking seriously.”
