With the majority of NWCFL teams in action across the weekend, there was plenty of scope to speak to club managers for their opinions on what their teams produced in their 90 minutes.
Premier Division:
Gary Moore, of Lower Breck (Lower Breck 2-1 AFC Liverpool):
“Delighted with the three points against a very good AFC side. A perfect first half performance and we got the goal that we deserved going into the break. In the second half we lost our way for 5-10 minutes and let AFC into the game - no doubt a little bit of fatigue coming into the legs after Thursday night’s game!
“But we grew again got the winner through a debutant in Elliot Hughes, and probably could have had a few more. Once again delighted to bounce straight back after a tough defeat on Thursday night. There are going to be more of those days/nights for us all, and it’s about how you bounce back from them, and we did just that in horrendous weather conditions.”
Jack Edwards, of Pilkington (Colne 2-4 Pilkington):
“Delighted with the three points from a hard-fought game in challenging conditions. The game had everything; brilliant goals, an own goal, a penalty save, and lots of muddy kits. Huge praise to our players who rolled up their sleeves and never stopped until the end.”
First Division North:
Joe Burns, of Maghull (Steeton 1-6 Maghull):
“It was a really good performance from us in tough conditions. We started on the front foot and never really dropped our level of play. In the second half Steeton came out and played quick football, but we dealt with it really well and we played some really good football in return and scored some great goals.”
Arron Ripley, of Nelson (Nelson 5-1 Route One Rovers):
“It was a really pleasing performance, and one I've been after us putting out for a few weeks. We ran all over them as well as playing nice football. All 16 lads involved put in a serious shift.
“Not only another hat-trick for Charlie Frost, but three out of four forwards got on the scoresheet. Fingers crossed we can back the performance up on Wednesday now, against Darwen FC.”
First Division South:
Declan Swan, of Sandbach United (Runcorn Town 3-4 Sandbach United):
Saturday was a great game of non-league football that had everything. Huge credit must go to this team for never giving in. Even after equalising in the 88th minute, we had a “grab the ball and let's win this” attitude, and that's what we managed to do in the 93rd minute. Never knowing when you're beaten is a superb quality to have within the group.”
Adam Wall, of Stafford Town (Stafford Town 9-0 Allscott Heath)
“I thought we were superb on Saturday, particularly in the second half after a tough first half. I think the turning point was the red card - it can become difficult to break down a 10-man team, but our lads were tremendous and passed the ball with a great tempo and moved our opponents around.
“After missing some chances in the first half, we were ruthless in the second half to the credit of the lads. I'm obviously thrilled!”
