The Winners of the Reusch Goalkeeper of the Month Awards for August 2024 have been announced this week by the NWCFL.

PREMIER DIVISION

The North West Counties League Premier Division Goalkeeper of the Month Award for August 2024 has gone to Jordan Gidley from Longridge Town.

Jordan joined Longridge Town in the summer having played for Nelson last season, where they finished in the relegation places in the First Division North. As an experienced keeper at this level the club say that he has been brilliant working with what is a very young side, marshalling quite a young defence in front of him.

Enjoying the step up in divisions he kept a clean sheet in the opening game of the season, a 1-0 victory over Burscough. Despite Longridge losing the second game of the season, Jordan and his team bounced back and opened August with three victories and three more clean sheets.

The first saw Longridge progress in the FA Cup with a 2-0 win at home to Cheadle Town before a 1-0 away win at FC Isle of Man. His fourth clean sheet in five games came in the 8-0 win at Colne.

Unfortunately for Jordan, he suffered a serious ankle injury in an the next game, the FA Cup tie at home to 1874 Northwich which has seen him absent for the past three weeks. His presence around the Club has been a credit to him, particularly on the visit to Isle of Man.

The club report that at this moment in time it looks like a long term injury, and with Jordan not able to work, we wish him the best of luck with his recovery.

Congratulations to Jodran on his Award!

DIVISION ONE NORTH

Skelmersdale United stopper Ben Barnes has been confirmed as the NWCFL's Division One North Player of the Month for August 2024.

It's fair to say that Skem have struggled since relegation last season, with eight losses in their opening ten league games. They have also conceded a whopping 29 goals this season, so why on earth you may ask has their keeper won Goalkeeper of the Month?

Its true that other keepers in the league have kept multiple clean sheets in the month but with five Man of the Match wins from those ten league games, the panel opted for Ben on the basis that if he has been good enough to impress the opposition most matches, its hard to ignore!

The two games in July saw him win Man of the Match against both Atherton LR and Darwen. Into August and a third successive Man of the Match win came against Ashton Athletic. He also picked up MoM in Skem's games away at AFC Blackpool and Droylsden.

Congratulations to Ben for his performances in the month!

DIVISION ONE SOUTH

The winner of the August 2024 Goalkeeper of the Month Award for Division One South goes to Joey Oldham of New Mills.

The Millers struggled last season before a fine end of season run that saw them climb away from the foot of the table. This season they have started much better, with seven wins from ten games seeing them in second place in the table.

Joey has been a major part of this, and has enjoyed another excellent month between the sticks for The Millers with his side boasting the best defensive record in the league. The relationship he has built with his defence has been absolutely crucial in The Millers good start to the campaign.

Despite conceding a couple of goals on the road early on, Joey kept three clean sheets in his first three home games, at home to Shawbury United, Barnton and Stockport Georgians. He conceded just one in three other ties, helping his side to seven points in those games.

Perhaps Joey's best performance came in the FA Vase tie at higher ranked Golcar United, The Millers progressing on penalties after a 2-2 draw, the home side had a kick to win the game but Joey made a fine save to take the match into sudden death. He produced a magnificent flying save to send his side through, recordings of the save being viewed over 10,000 times on social media.

The final two games of the month brought Joey another two clean sheets, taking his tally to five for the season. The Millers won both of these games, at Cammell Laird 1907 at at home to Wolverhampton Sporting Community.

There is a feeling around the club that the Millers are still not playing as well as they can and he Joey been called into action on many occasions to ensure his team have taken points. The rest of the division should watch out if they do click as they feel they should!

Congratulations Joey!
