Ahead of the new 2024-25 season League Statistician Kevin Lawton has taken a look at the stats and milestones that can be achieved as and when the campaign gets started.  This is the first of a small series of stats updates that Kevin is compiling as pre-season gets well and truly under way and the fixtures start getting closer.

Stats Update ahead of the new season One

Club Records in the NWCFL

Bacup Borough are hot on the heels of St Helens Town when it comes to the most NWCFL games played. They are just 10 games behind the former NWCFL side, with 1,538. Chadderton should also surpass the St Helens total towards the end of the new season, being just 36 games adrift.

Bacup and Chadderton are two of the four teams who have competed in every NWCFL season since it’s inception in 1982. The other two being AFC Blackpool (under various names) and Daisy Hill.

Cheadle Town joined one year later, in ’83 and have been ever present since.

Ashton Town, Burscough, Nelson, Padiham, Prestwich Heys, Skelmersdale United and newly promoted Maghull all featured in that first season but have spent time in either higher or lower leagues. Maghull dropped down to the West Cheshire League at the end of the 98/99 season, they need to complete 26 games to reach their 600th in the NWCFL.

There are currently 23 teams that have reached the 1,000-game milestone, 16 of whom are still active in our competition. Abbey Hey will join that list when they play their 8th game of the upcoming season. AFC Blackpool need 16 games to reach 1,500.

Maine Road need 25 goals to reach 2,500 and Atherton LR are just 5 goals short of hitting the 2,000 mark. Holker Old Boys are in with a shot at their 2,000th, they need 58 from the coming season and Maghull need exactly the same to register their 1,500 whilst Colne are just 7 goals short of 1,500 and Barnoldswick Town need 9.
