The main headlines of the NWCFL midweek action were the return of former Wales and Premier League midfielder Robbie Savage to competitive action as he turned out for NWCFL First Division South side Stockport Town after signing just 24 hours previously.
Monday saw the 45-year-old turn out for Adam Jones side and with the Sky Sports cameras there, they ran out 3-2 winners against league leaders FC Oswestry Town - Aaron Dwyer bagging two goals as they secured all three points. Meanwhile, in the other tie of the night, Stone Old Alleynians won 3-0 away at Maine Road.
On Tuesday evening, there were two games in the Lancashire Challenge Trophy, with a super 3-2 win for Pilkington against Northern Premier League side Marine, but it was the end of the road for Nelson who bowed out 6-3 to Bamber Bridge.
Whilst in the NWCFL Premier Division, a spirited fightback from Bootle saw them come from 2-0 down to win 3-2 against Longridge Town whilst Rylands did the same winning 2-1 against Whitchurch Alport.
A late Tobias Jeffrey goal secured a point for Roy Mason's Steeton away at Ashton Town in the First Division North, while New Mills recorded a 6-1 win against Abbey Hulton United in the NWCFL First Division South.
Elsewhere, Vauxhall Motors came from behind to defeat Sandbach United 2-1, whilst West Didsbury & Chorlton narrowed the gap to the promotion places with a fine 4-1 win at home against Alsager Town.
In the other game of the night, St Martins and Wythenshawe Town thrashed out a 0-0 draw.
Wednesday saw one game from each of the three NWCFL divisions. Winsford United ran out 3-1 winners away at Litherland REMCYA in the NWCFL top flight, whilst Abbey Hey narrowly beat Cheadle Town in the First Division South and AFC Darwen best AFC Blackpool 2-1 in the First Division North rounding off a superb midweek.
