After a 2-2 draw, with Heys coming from two goals down with seven minutes remaining thanks to a Bradley Sixsmith brace, Jon Lyons side squeezed the win winning 5-3 on penalties.

In the Cheshire Senior Cup 1st Round it was a superb night for 1874 Northwich who came from behind to level the tie at 2-a-piece and sent the game into penalties which they duly won 4-3 - much to the delight of the travelling fans.

In the Staffordshire Senior Cup 1st Round it was not good news for NWCFL side Abbey Hulton United who was knocked out of the competition, losing 6-1 to Sporting Khalsa.

The Premier Division took centre stage with four superb fixtures. Bootle knew going into the game that if they won they would go top of the league and in front of 168 spectators they obliged - beating Winsford United by a slender 1-0.

Charnock Richard were the biggest winners of the evening, beating Skelmersdale United 4-0, whilst Irlam's Jordan Icely netted a last-minute winner at home against Barnoldswick Town to beat the managerless side 3-2. Meanwhile, in the other fixture, Congleton Town and Burscough thrashed out a one-all draw at Ivy Gardens.

Just the one game in the First Division North, with Garstang squeezing passed Atherton LR 2-1, while in the Southern league Sandbach United survived an early scare to eventually beat New Mills away from home 3-1.

On Wednesday night, Litherland REMYCA and Squires Gate draw 0-0 in the NWCFL top flight, whilst Chadderton and Shelley also shared the spoils in the First Division South - drawing 1-1. However, Runcorn Town had an evening to forget in the Cheshire Senior Cup 1st Round as they were beaten 7-0 by National League North outfit Chester FC.

The third and final night of midweek action saw an all-NWCFL affair in the Liverpool Senior Cup with Lower Breck facing Pilkington - where the latter advanced into the next round winning 2-1 with the winner coming five minutes from full time.

The NWCFL returns on Friday evening with Avro hosting Skelmersdale United in the NWCFL Premier Division. Then follows the other 58 NWCFL sides who play on Saturday in their respective leagues - an intriguing weekend ahead.
