Sandbach United starlets progress

Two players who began their careers in Sandbach United junior teams are making great progress in the professional game.
Tommy Doyle has followed in the footsteps of his famous grandparents Mike Doyle and Glyn Pardoe by signing a professional contract for Manchester City.
Tommy, who is a central midfielder, was one of eight players selected along with Ben Hockenhull (son of current Sandbach United manager Andy Hockenhull), from what was considered one of the best Sandbach junior teams to date, to progress to pro club academies.
Tommy has become the first of these to sign a professional contract on his 17th birthday, after what could be considered an exceptional time in his academy years.
He was quickly highlighted as one to watch for the future, and was introduced to the England youth set up where he continued to excel, having had his first international call up for the England Under 16 squad and later the Under 17 squad, accumulating 19 caps.
Doyle has predominantly featured for City’s under-18 side to date, but also appeared for the under-19s in the UEFA Youth League, and will look to kick on after signing his first professional deal.

“As a club we are very proud of what Tommy has achieved. He is a lovely lad a great footballer and has a very bright future for both club and country.
"According to the experts, Tommy is considered one of the most exciting English talents of his generation with the potential to go all the way to Pep Guardiola’s first team.
"Tommy, whom many compare to Steven Gerrard, couldn’t hide his delight at being handed a pro deal at his boyhood club, declaring it to be his best moment yet and saying he is looking forward to the future.
"It really was an exceptional year of young footballers at Sandbach 12 years ago, with 8 going to academies and nearly all of those 8 still doing well, and in with a chance of professional contracts.
"Tommy is, of course, one of these and another to watch will be the manager's son Ben Hockenhull, who is currently with Manchester United and part of their Under 19 UEFA youth league squad.
"Dreams can be achieved, and we are delighted to have played our part as a club that can help identify and produce talent at an early stage”.
