Weekend 10 n the NWCFL saw one team playing in the Emirates FA Cup, one in the Premier Division with most other sides in Macron Cup First Round action.
Emirates FA Cup
Chadderton bowed out of the Emirates FA Cup at the Third Qualifying Round stage after a 3-0 loss at National League North side Spennymoor Town.
It was a club record run to get to that stage, and they gave it their all in the first half against a side ranked three leagues higher, going in at the break goalless with the dream of reaching the Final Qualifying Round still on. Chaddy fell behind in the 55th minute when Glen Taylor opened the scoring with his a header from a corner, before Katia Kouayte’s finish doubled the lead with just 11 minutes to play.
Olly Dyson made it three in stoppage time with a low finish into the bottom corner on a day that will live long in the memory of those present despite the scoreline.
Premier Division
There was just one league game in the NWCFL this weekend, and it was a case of 'never leave early' between Irlam and Ramsbottom United. John Main opened the scoring for Irlam on 12 minutes with Jack Mitchell doubling the lead four minutes into the second half. Richard Baker pulled one back 20 minutes into the second half before Jacob Holland-Wilkinson equalised a minute into stoppage time. Not to be outdone though, Toby Humprhies won it for Irlam with a goal six minutes into stoppage time!
Irlam climb up to fifth place in the Premier Division after that win with Rambottom United remaining in second place, two points behind leaders Padiham having now played a game more.
Macron Cup
If it was a case of 'never leave early' at Irlam, then the same was certainly true of Ashton Athletic and FC St Helens. First Division North Ashton led 2-0 in that game through Deklan Hill and Luke Crompton with the board going up for time added on. Harry Hagan then pulled one back on 90 minutes for the Premier Divsion side, followed by Mackenzie ONeill levelling three minutes later. With penalties looming, Michael Ibeto scored the winning goal for FC St Helens in the sixth minute of stoppage time, completing a stunning comeback for his team.
First Division South side New Mills pulled off a win against Premier Division opponents as they won 2-1 at Wythenshawe. Danny Warburton put them ahead early with Bryan Ly levelling from the spot just before the break. However Millen Brown's goal ten minutes into the second half was enough to see them through. Another big win came for First Division North side MSB Woolton as they beat Litherland REMYCA on penalties. Woolton led twice through Adam Keane goals with REMY levelling each goal quickly through Paul Foy and Luke Denson. With the final score 2-2, Woolton kept their nerve to win 4-2 on penalties.
There was also penalties at five other games. Burscough survived a scare after a goalless draw at Daisy Hill, winning 3-2 from the spot. Bacup Borough and AFC Blackpool was also goalless, with the Mechanics winning 5-3 from the spot. A third goalless draw came between Darwen and Garstang, with Garstang winning 5-4 from the spot. Cammell Laird 1907 came from behind to draw 1-1 at last seasons finalists Stafford Town before winning 5-4 on penalties. And it also finished 1-1 between Fulwood Amateurs and Nelson, with the Admirals winning 4-3 on penalties.
Kyle Foley scored a hat-trick for Sandbach United in their convincing 4-0 win over Haughmond, Harrison Cunningham with the other goal. There was another hat-trick from Barney Wiggin of Colne in their 4-2 win at Squires Gate. Nathan Cliffe put them ahead early with Christian Edokpayi levelling soon after. Wiggin restored the lead before another equaliser in first half stoppage time, this time from Saad Mekkaoui-Abouzaid. The second half saw Wiggin add two more to put his side through.
Biggest win of the day came from Telford Town who beat fellow First Division South side Wolverhampton Sporting Community 7-1, with Jack Howse and Alex Hughes both scoring twice for Telford. Sheriff Njie also grabbed a brace for Cheadle Town, who beat Glossop North End 3-2, with Steven Hole scoring both for Allscott Heath who beat Alsager Town 2-1.
There was five goals at Stockport Town, with Prestwich Heys edging it by the odd goal through a stoppage time winner from Luke Findlow. AFC Liverpool beat South Liverpool 3-1, that game played at Jericho Lane, with Eccleshall running out 3-1 winners over Market Drayton Town. It was also 3-1 at Longridge Town, the home side taking an early lead before Barnoldswick Town came back to win.
Thornton Cleveleys put four past Steeton without reply, and it was the same at West Didsbury & Chorlton who put out Cheadle Heath Nomads. Wolverhampton Casuals won 2-0 at Shawbury United, Foley Meir won 1-0 at Ashville, with Runcorn Town beating Barnton by the same scoreline. Atherton LR also won 1-0, that coming at Pilkington.
