We were delighted to catch up recently with Bury, who were presented with their Club of the Month awards for both July/August and September 2024.
Directors Mike Howarth (left) holding August & John Woodhead (right) holding September are pictured receiving the awards from League Fixtures Secretary Jeff Voller who carried out the presentation on behalf of the League Committee.
The Shakers started off the season in blistering form. They played ten games in the month and had an unbeaten start to the season. After drawing their opener they had two away wins, one coming against a team from the NPL in Congleton Town. They then drew against Irlam before finishing the month with six successive victories.
Two of those were again against teams from the NPL, with victories at Avro and Garforth Town in the Emirates FA Cup. They also progressed in the FA Vase with a win against Maghull, and had league victories over Abbey Hey, AFC Liverpool and Cheadle Town.
They had yet another unbeaten month in September with six wins and two draws from their eight games played, extending their unbeaten run to 23 games. They also had two "giant killing" wins in the Emirates FA Cup as they moved just one game away from a place in the First Round Proper.
They started the month with a hard fought 2-0 win against South Liverpool before a 1-1 draw at FC Isle of Man, Ben Hockenhull rescuing a point with a goal five minutes into stoppage time. A 4-2 win followed at Glossop North End before their first big Cup win of the month came in a superb 3-0 win at National League North side Blyth Spartans, the biggest home FA Cup defeat for Blyth since 1989.
A 1-1 draw at high flying Ramsbottom United followed before progression in the Isuzu FA Vase with a 3-0 win at home to Burscough. Another league win came courtesey of a 2-1 win at Stockport Town, with the final game of September being another great FA Cup win at another National League North side, this time a 3-2 win at Radcliffe.
Congrations to everyone at the club!
