Quotes from the Weekend: Matchweek 9

Mon 23rd September 2024 | Manager Reactions
By Jay Cooper

With the majority of NWCFL teams in action across the weekend in the League, Isuzu FA Vase AND Edward Case Cup, there was plenty of scope to speak to club managers for their opinions on what their teams produced in their 90 minutes.

Isuzu FA Vase:

Andy Harrison, of Colne (Colne 2-1 Knaresborough Town)

“The lads showed a fantastic togetherness today and a willingness to take on new instructions and ideas. To go out and execute it for 90 mins and to be the better side throughout showed character and strength that I'm not sure they knew they had.

“We need some new faces in the group who have experience at this level, but this group has something that I'm really excited to work with.”

Sam Golden, of Foley Meir (Coton Green (3)4-4(4) Foley Meir)

“Firstly, we are delighted to make it to the first round proper of the Vase in our first ever year in the competition! We’re perhaps not as delighted with the errors that we made which meant it went the distance, to penalties, but the character and fight that the lads showed to come from behind early in the second half was phenomenal.

“We controlled large parts of the game, and our attacking play was frightening which, in all fairness, it has been for the majority of our season so far. We just need to sharpen things up at the back and hopefully we will get that consistency with our results moving forward. However, cup games are all about getting into the hat for the next round and we will look forward to the draw on Monday!”

Edward Case Cup:

Joe Burns, of Maghull (Maghull 5-2 Thornton Cleveleys)

“We started really well by getting control of the first half, we went into the lead and totally dominated for long periods. The second half was much more difficult. Thornton came out and applied pressure, but we managed the game really well and even though we conceded again, we added another goal late on which was pleasing. I can’t fault the lads after a few tough weeks. I was very proud of them.”

Premier Division:

Luke Denson, of Litherland REMYCA (Litherland REMYCA 3-2 Longridge Town)

“It was a great three points for us against a very good Longridge team. We showed how big our character is, coming back from losing position twice in 4 days to get back to back wins at home. Hopefully we can kick on now and start picking more points up that I feel our performances have deserved.”

First Division North:

Dave Pace, of Droylsden (Skelmersdale United 1-2 Droylsden)

"We pulled off a very good win on Saturday against a massively improved Skelmersdale United side. Tommy Lawson is doing a fantastic job with what he's got, and I'm sure they'll be picking up points in no time."

First Division South:

Darren Moore, of Runcorn Town (Eccleshall 2-3 Runcorn Town)

“I’m absolutely made up to get the 3 points today. It's a big win for us which I think we deserved.

“It wasn't a pretty game of football to be honest, and we were not at our best throughout, but I think we edged it with the battling effort the lads put in.

“I have to give credit to Eccleshall for the way they performed when they went down to 10 men - they had a real good go at us, so fair play to them.

“We move on now, preparing for next week's game at Barnton where we will be doing everything we can to pick up the points there.”
