It is with great sadness that The North West Counties Football League must report the passing of our good friend and colleague John Reid.
John was Fixture Secretary for the League for many years, having previously served as secretary of Eastwood Hanley. More recently, John was an ambassador for the League, covering mainly the clubs in the southern area of the League, and was well known to clubs throughout Staffordshire and surrounding areas, where he was based.
League Chair, Paul Lawler, said: "John was a very passionate supporter of the League and of non-league in general, and would often be found visiting clubs around the country even when on holiday, and would always report back on what he found. As a member of the League Management Commitee, and as fixture secretary in particularly, he work tirelessly for the League and our clubs. More recently he took on the role of League Ambassador, visiting our clubs in the south of the region, and would often be found presenting awards and chatting to everyone he knew, which was a lot of people! Despite recent illness, he still turned up at games and helped me present Brocton's Championship Trophy at the end of April, which was a measure of the man and his love of the game.
"On behalf of the Directors, League Management Committee and Officers of the League, I would like to offer our condolences to his wife Barbara, and family during this difficult and sad time."
Details of the funeral arrangements will be published on the website when they are confirmed.
