NWCFL First Division South outfit Alsager Town have announced the signing of former EFL striker Steve Jones from NWCFL top-flight outfit Whitchurch Alport.
The 43-year-old is vastly experienced having spent most of his career in the EFL with Crewe, Burnley, Huddersfield Town and Bradford City to name a few.
Since joining Alport in the summer, Jones has scored 12 goals in 20 appearances.
Alsager Chairman Terry Greer told Stoke-On-Trent Live, "Steve’s a big signing for us,” said Greer. “We have struggled for goals all season, so hopefully Steve can solve that problem. He’s got bags of experience, keeps himself fit. He’ll be the old head up front who can also organise and encourage the younger players in the team. It’s something that’s been missing for most of the season."
Jones, will also take on a coaching role to work with the management team.
"On the pitch, Steve will hopefully be the short-term fix this season, then we’ll look to build for next season,” added Greer.
Their next game is on Saturday when they face an away trip to Stone Old Alleynians.
