Over the course of the season, NWCFL managers will get there chance to have their say on their weekend's game. To ensure an even split between them all, they have been split into different groups so, throughout the campaign, each manager will have roughly the same chance to have their say.

Manager's do not have to give us their thoughts, it is up to them, but from the response from the first weekend, we are confident it will be a popular feature. Not every match is featured but over the course of the season, it will even out.

1874 Northwich 4-1 Padiham

1874 manager Wayne Goodison was delighted with the opening day win, "We are obviously happy to start the season with a good win, but happier with large parts of our overall performance which showed the value of some of the work we have done in the preseason.

"As we said afterwards though, it's only a start and we know that we will expect a tough challenge on Tuesday when Winsford visit us."

Ashton Athletic 2-2 Skelmersdale United

Joint Ashton manager Jay Foulds feels it was two points dropped, "After a good pre-season we failed to continue the performances into the first league game. I don't know if it was nerves but although we didn't play bad there is certainly room for improvement.

"Credit to Skem who worked hard to stop our flow and equalised with the last kick of the game. I didn't have to say much to the lads as they knew it was two points dropped, the good thing is we go again Tuesday and I'm sure the lads will put the performance right."

Avro 1-2 Longridge Town

A host of missed chances cost Avro according to manager James Hampson, "First half was very even with chances for both teams. After the break we scored early and had two/three glorious chances to put the game out of sight, missing from 2 yards out.

"We then got punished and they scored a very good goal. We knew Longridge would be a very fit, well-drilled team like all Ashy's teams are. Just wasn't our day today a good but a good early lesson for how we need to be successful in the Prem."

Barnoldswick Town 3-3 Congleton Town

A thriller at The Silent Night Stadium and Barnoldswick manager Matt Barnes agreed that a draw was the right result, "It was a great game I think a draw was the fair result. Both teams put on a good showcase for the NWCFL.

"Individual mistakes cost us but the character we showed to get the point, in the end, was fantastic."

Burscough 1-3 Winsford United

Burscough boss Nick Matthews was honest in his reflection, "If I am honest I thought we were poor; that's taking nothing away from Winsford who came with a game plan that worked. I was disappointed because we never kept hold of the football well enough for 80 mins, the final 10 minutes we actually looked and played like the Burscough side that we have been in pre-season.

"We know this season is going to be the toughest season in possibly NWC history; with the opportunity of 3 teams going up, but we will have to play and look after the football a whole lot better than that today if we want to compete at this level. Not using this as an excuse as like I previously stated I thought the best team won, but losing three starters the night before changed the whole team shape of what we worked on in training.

"I thought our two young lads in Louis Hayes (on loan from Chester) had a good full debut, he has loads of ability and energy and wanted to get on the ball. The other being Ben Lightfoot, who apart from a mistake for the first goal, looked assured and comfortable on the football all afternoon.

"A special mention to goalkeeper Dom Garner who made a superb penalty save in the first half. All in all, we just need to up our game and I am sure the results will come; we are young and still learning."

Rylands 3-2 Charnock Richard

Charnock manager Ryan Donnellan "It was a hard-fought game from both sides on a difficult surface. It wasn’t really what I expected, their style of play perhaps eas not what we were expecting but I felt we adapted well to the conditions.

"The game could have gone either way, I feel a draw would have been a fair result but not taking our early chances cost us. My players battled well against a physical Rylands side. It obviously wasn’t the start I wanted but we go again on Tuesday night to get our first 3 points on the board."

A big thank to all the managers for their replies after a busy day, it is appreciated.
