In advance of the start of the new campaign, we take a look at the distances travelled by the club's in each division over the course of the next ten months.
Next up is the First Division South, consisting of 19 clubs this season, an increase of one from 2024/25. Changes from last season include two sides promoted from Step 7 as we welcome Haughmond and Telford Town into our system. Wolverhampton Casuals come the other way having been relegated from the Midland League Premier Division last term. In gaining three clubs, we lose two as Winsford United and Abbey Hulton United both gained promotion in April.
It's a grand total of 27,548 miles travelled by clubs in this division in 2025/26! With 342 games overall, that's an average of roughly 80.5 miles per match. However, as per the North, all journeys are not created equal and now we dive into some of the more extreme treks...
The longest round-trip, clocking in at 163 miles, is embarked on when Ashville and Wolverhampton Sporting Community face off against each other - the first of those matchups being at Wolves' Pride Park on Saturday 2nd August.
There are a few match-ups running this close, new-boys Wolverhampton Casuals make the 159-mile journey to Ashville on the opening day - Saturday 26th July - and there's also 150+ mile round trips between the Wolves duo and Cammell Laird 1907 and between New Mills and both of Allscott Heath and Haughmond.
A far cry from the above mammoth journeys, the shortest trip in the division is just 7 miles return! Cheadle Heath Nomads and Stockport Georgians hold this crown and the first 'Stockport derby' of the season takes place under the Cromley Road lights on Tuesday 29th July.
Onto averages now and it's Market Drayton Town who have the fortunate accolade of the lowest travel in the division - the 'Gingerbreadmen' will travel 1144 miles over the course of the season at an average of approximately 63.5 miles per round-trip. As can possibly be expected from the above extreme trips, it's Ashville who spend the longest on the road, the side from the Wirral travelling 1981 miles - that's 110 per matchday and significantly more than the divisional average of 1450.
The closest club to the average is Allscott Heath; the 'Monners' totting up 1437 miles between now and April with an average of nearly 80 miles per game. Their longest trek is the above-mentioned journey to the Peak District and New Mills' Church Lane while they enjoy a couple of new local derbies against Telford Town and Haughmond, both of those being fewer than 15 miles round trip.
