By Jay Cooper

On Wednesday, June 5th (next Wednesday at the time of writing), the NWCFL's own Jay Cooper will be participating in charity fundraising event through his full time job with NatWest Group. Below are all the necessary details regarding the event, taken directly from the fundraiser page, as well as a link to the page for anyone interested in donating to the two wonderful causes that Jay has chosen to fundraise in aid of.

"It is my absolute pleasure to be taking part in NatWest's Baton Relay, in partnership with Team GB ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. I work full time for NatWest as a Personal Banker, and my part in this endeavour will consist of a 43.5 mile cycle from the City of Liverpool Gymnastics Club to Spinningfields Square, Manchester, on June 5th.

"As someone with a lifelong interest in sport - an interest that has led to a Multimedia Sports Journalism uni degree and various paid and unpaid roles in sports coverage - to take part in this event is an honour. I have never personally taken part in a fundraising event before, but I have known various people in my personal life who have done, and I have always tried to contribute where I can.

"The charities that I have chosen to fundraise for are St. Catherine's Hospice, a local charity to me, in Leyland, who offer support to people affected by life-shortening conditions to have quality of life, to the end of life; and Sam's Gift, who aim to support young people with cancer by providing them with a "Journey Box", where hopes, fears and wishes can be expressed.

"I have always known about the great work St. Catherine's do, and my parents regularly donate to their causes. I first encountered Sam's Gift whilst working in media for Whitefield-based football team Prestwich Heys AFC, whom they had a partnership with - ironically, one of those various unpaid roles that I mentioned earlier!

"Any and all donations, no matter how little or large, are greatly appreciated! These are two fantastic causes, and the event itself is sure to be memorable!"
