PREMIER DIVISION

The North West Counties League Premier Division Goalkeeper of the Month Award for July/August 2025 has gone to Joe Bickerstaffe of Atherton LR.

This is the third time that Joe has won this award after last picking it up in September 2024. His performances for LR last season helped them to win the First Division North, with Joe named as the division's Goalkeeper of the Year at our Annual Awards Dinner in June.

He has made the step up to the Premier Division look effortless. His first two games of the season saw LR lose 2-1 at Ramsbottom United and 3-1 at home to South Liverpool, with Joe keeping his side in both games.

The first game in August saw him keep a clean sheet in LR's 1-0 win over Ossett United in the Emirates FA Cup, and he then kept another in the 6-0 win at City of Liverpool in the next game. A third clean sheet followed in a superb 1-0 win at West Didsbury & Chorlton.

Three then became four with another FA Cup win, this time 2-0 at FC St Helens, with another clean sheet then coming in the league when they won 5-0 at home to Stockport Town.

The final game of the month was a thrilling FA Cup game against cross town rivals Atherton Collieries, with LR 3-0 ahead at the break. A penalty for Colls at the start of the second half was converted, the first goal that Joe had conceded in 527 minutes of football. The game ended 5-2 to LR.

Eight games in the month, five clean sheets and just seven goals conceded.

Congratulations to Joe on his Award!

FIRST DIVISION NORTH

The Goalkeeper of the Month award for the First Division North has gone to Matt Bailey of Holker Old Boys. He is the first Holker player to win this award since Sam Stephens in February 2022.

Matt is in his third season at Holker where he has been an ever present since joining the club. He was formerly with Kendal Town and Milnthorpe Corinthians.

The first game for Matt in July saw him keep a clean sheet with a 5-0 win over last seasons runners up Nelson. He conceded just the once in the next game, a 4-1 win over Fulwood Amateurs, before successive 2-1 home defeats to Steeton and Darwen.

Next saw Matt keep his second clean sheet of the season, a 2-0 success over Ryton & Crawcrook Albion in the Isuzu FA Vase, which was followed up last week with his third clean sheet in the final game of the month where Holker saw out a goalless draw at MSB Woolton.

Congratulations to Matt for his performances in the month!

FIRST DIVISION SOUTH

The winner of the July/August 2025 Goalkeeper of the Month Award for the First Division South is Will Ebbrell of Runcorn Town. This is the first time Will has picked up this award, and the first time for a Runcorn goalkeeper since Adam Reid won it in February 2020.

Will is in his third season in the league after playing previously for Ashville and Cammell Laird 1907, before moving to Runcorn Town at the start of this season, a club that he did make one appearance for last season. He has quickly made himself first choice and repaid the managers faith in him with some fine displays.

The first game for him in March saw him keep a clean sheet in a 4-0 home win over Market Drayton Town, quickly followed by another in a midweek trip to his old club Ashville where Runcorn won 2-0.

He conceded twice in a 4-2 Runcorn win at Haughmond, before another clean sheet came in a 7-0 win over Wolverhampton Sporting Community.

His fifth game for Runcorn was a 2-1 home defeat by Sandbach United, before Will kept a fourth clean sheet in six appearances as Runcorn won 2-0 at Shawbury United.

Congratulations Will!
