Following the club’s recent award of a free new kitchen for its refreshment bar at the Stoke Signage Stadium under the # Howdens Game Changer Programme with the Football Foundation, the installation work began this week.

Considerable preparation work in advance of the start had to be undertaken, much of this done by Club Chairman Neil Washington and committee members. This included the removal of a dividing wall, floor levelling and a new serving hatch. In addition, club member Gary Clark did necessary plumbing work and Paul Cox, of Cox Electrical, all the new wiring and power points.

After this, a member of the Howdens design team visited the ground to prepare the plans and provide images of what the kitchen would look like on completion. Diane Washington of our match day catering team was in regular contact at this point with the Howdens (Rugeley) depot manager, Chad Freeman, to discuss the units and equipment which was to be installed. Having approved the plans, the go-ahead was given for the kitchen fitters, H&W Installations, to begin the work last Thursday.

Club Secretary, Jim Tunney, said:

“We were delighted to receive the award which is going to make a huge difference to our match day catering. It was only when we saw the designs and plan from Howdens that we really began to appreciate what we were getting in terms of kitchen units and equipment. Chad Freeman from Howdens Rugeley depot has been of immense help in getting things moving once approval had been received from the Football Foundation. Additionally, we can’t thank our former striker, Nick Wellecomme, of H&W Installations enough as he came to the ground on the same day as he returned from holiday to view the room and give us a starting date for the fitting. It is already looking very impressive, and our catering team are really looking forward to using the new kitchen”.

There is still work to be done before everything is completed and another former player, Gary Barrass, who is a carpet fitter by trade, will be fitting the floor covering to finish the job.

Jim Tunney said: “If everything goes to plan, we are hoping that the finished kitchen will be fully operational by our next home match against Barnton on Saturday 6. September. Thanks to everyone involved who has got us to this stage”
