Charlie Wood of Rocester has been presented with the Reusch Goalkeeper of the Month award for December 2022.

League Management Committee Member Peter Stokes presented the award to Charlie at a recent game.

This is what was said about him when the announcement was made.

FIRST DIVISION SOUTH - CHARLIE WOOD (ROCESTER)

Making it a hat-trick of debutant winners this season is Charlie Wood, the Rocester number one picking up the first ever Goalkeeper or Player of the Month that the Romans have won.

Despite a disastrous start in the league (with only 3 points to their name and a goal difference of -54 by the end of November), first team goalkeeper Charlie has maintained a tremendously positive attitude and applied himself with unstinting effort and hard work throughout. Indeed, without Charlie in the team, the Rocester contingent are confident that the goal difference would have been worse.

December has seen Rocester's fortunes improve with two draws in the league (1-1 v Ashville & 0-0 v Abbey Hulton United) and a 4-2 win against Midland Football League Premier Division outfit Wolverhampton Casuals FC to reach the Quarter Finals of the Staffordshire FA Senior Cup.

Charlie made a significant contribution in all three matches including many fine saves to deny the opposition. The 0-0 draw versus Abbey Hulton was of particular note in that this was the first clean sheet that Rocester had kept in all league and cup matches this season and this was in no small measure due to a number of excellent saves by Charlie. Needless to say, Abbey Hulton had no hesitation in declaring Charlie their Man Of The Match!

Well done Charlie!
