Andrew Briggs of Steeton has been presented with his Player of the Month award.
League Management Committee Member Glyn Jones caught up with Andrew to present him with his award.
The striker had a fine month in November and picked up the award for the first time. This is what was said about him when the announcement was made.
FIRST DIVISION NORTH - ANDREW BRIGGS (STEETON)
The Player of the Month heads to Steeton for the very first time as Andrew Briggs' seven goals and three man of the match performances seeing him the winner.
Steeton's strong late-October form (3 wins and 1 draw) has coincided with 24-year-old Andy's purple-patch in front of goal too. Scoring his 100th senior goal for the club in the surprise West Riding County Cup win over NCEL Premier team Silsden was the springboard for a rich vein of form for the young captain.
A hat-trick at Darwen was complemented by being involved in the other two goals as well, the left foot proving decisive following strong running into position. The next match saw another hat-trick at home to Runcorn, this time a trio of right footed finishes, and a further assist for Steeton’s other goal. The final match of the month saw him lead the line against 100% side Pilkington and help his team to a surprise 1-1 draw, both goals coming in time added after the 90 minutes. No goals on that occasion but a fine captain’s performance from the big striker.
Andy’s disciplinary record last season was far from perfect but on being given the captaincy the one-club man has flourished and managed to channel his energy positively, no yellow cards in his 15 games this season. Andy is very much the quiet man off the field but having been with the club since he was 16 has earned the respect required to make his captain with his goals, hard work and overall example. At 6’2” tall his is a threat in the air but is actually more effective with fine footwork, strong pace and a good finished with both feet.
A great October for Andy.
