Droylsden extended their unbeaten home record with a thrilling 3-2 win over Darwen at the Butchers’ Arms in front of nearly 1,200 spectators.
Some of the 1,184-strong crowd were still streaming through the turnstiles when Darwen took the lead after just four minutes; Connor Hughes’ corner turned home by Chris Bailey after Charlie Lloyd’s header was saved.
The visitors dominated the opening exchanges but Droylsden found themselves level when Fuad Kasali’s effort squeezed underneath ‘Salmoners’ ‘keeper Louis Hood with 12 minutes on the clock.
The ‘Bloods’ went ahead thanks to a blistering counter-attack finished off by George Kattah at the second attempt, after Hood spilled the initial shot.
Kasali had the ball in the net again five minutes before half time but the flag was raised for offside and the score remained 2-1 at half time.
Bruno De Almeida Severino levelled the scores again on 49 minutes when he lifted the ball over the onrushing Jordan Latham and it bounced into the roof of the net.
Parity didn’t last very long once again and it was the hosts who got their noses back in front through Nelson Van’s powerful strike just three minutes later.
Kattah was amongst the action again ten minutes later, but his fizzing effort went just wide of the far post before Jack Foster thought he’d levelled for Darwen direct from a corner, but the referee indicated there’d been a foul on the goalkeeper.
A fine double save prevented the ‘Bloods’ from gaining a two goal cushion as the clock ticked away before referee James Owen blew his whistle to signal the end of the game and the weekend as a whole.
