Goals from Jack Banister and Reuben Dass ensured West Didsbury & Chorlton’s return to the Premier Division play off positions.

The final game of the day attracted a bumper crowd of 830 at the Asgard Engineering Stadium as West ran out 2-0 winners over Glossop North End.

The opening half hour passed without any major chances either way before West were awarded a penalty, the fourth of the day, 10 minutes before half time when GNE ‘keeper Alex Brown rushed out to meet the ball and clattered Victor Abakadi on the corner of the area. Jordan Lazenbury stepped up to take the spot kick but Alex Brown got down well to first save the strike and then gain a hold of the loose ball.

GNE had claims for a penalty of their own waved away in first half stoppage time when Tom Lawless went down under pressure but referee Alex Phillips waived the appeals away and the two teams went back into the dressing rooms with the deadlock yet to be broken.

The second half was as finely balanced as the first until a moment of magic on the hour mark from Jack Banister as he arrowed a strike into the top right corner to send the sizeable travelling support wild.

The visitors were 10 places above their hosts in the league table heading into this clash and began to impose themselves on the game after the goal; Banister continuing to cause problems for the Glossop back line.

As the game entered the final 15 minutes, West could sense vulnerability and they continued to turn the screw in their search for a second goal, substitute Thomas Murray having a strike parried away before Reuben Dass went one better on 82 minutes with a smart finish to secure the points in Derbyshire and to cap off a fine day of North West Counties football.
