Stockport Georgians secured a shock 3-1 win at home to Sandbach United in the Saturday lunchtime game at Cromley Road.
It was another 500+ attendance as the crowd of 532 enjoyed the Stockport sunshine for the first of four #NWCFLGroundhop2025 games over the course of the day.
Just as at Ramsbottom last night, the first half was cagey with neither side really gaining a foothold in the game. The hosts had the better chances, hitting the woodwork twice in the space of two minutes midway through the half before a Lucas Berry effort went just wide of the upright in stoppage time.
In similar fashion to the opening game of the ‘hop, the game came to life in the early moments of the second period when Georgians’ Kyle Wych pounced on a goalkeeping error to get the day up and running.
The lead didn’t last long however as a Niall Cope cross was buried by Ben Greenop to bring Sandbach level just two minutes later.
Goals continued to flow at Cromley Road and it was Georgians who regained the lead through a brilliant curling effort from Oliver McFadyen, sparking jubilant scenes from the the home support behind the goal.
The hosts put the game beyond doubt with eight minutes to go when McFadyen scored his second of the game from the spot after the linesman indicated a foul inside the area.
The visiting ‘Ramblers’, third in the table, pressed for an unlikely comeback but the Georgians defence were equal to everything and referee Kaan Hayes blew his whistle to confirm a vital win for Stockport Georgians as they pulled further clear of the drop zone.
