Barnoldswick Town have won the Macron Cup for the first time as they defeated Chadderton in Saturday's Fubal.

Roared on by a large and vociferous support at Accrington Stanley's superb Wham Stadium, Barnoldswick were on top from the start and took the game to their opponents. They took the lead on the half hour mark, with Andrew Hill scoring his 21st goal of the season to open the scoring. He picked up the ball 25 yards from goal and, setting himself up on his left foot, curled a magnificent shot into the bottom left hand corner just beyone Morgan Bacon.

Not content to settle on their lead, a minute later it was two. After winning possession, the ball was played up into the area and found Luke Stowe, who sidestepped a challenge before his shot found the same corner that Hill did.

They held onto that advantage until 76 minutes when Stowe again got clear on the right hand side and was brought down by Bacon who came out of his area to close down the attack. The referee had little option but to dismiss Bacon with forward Adam Dale going in goal. The free kick was taken by Oliver Roberts and was a beauty, dipping to hit the underside of the bar before nestling in the net.

The referee signalled for 7 added minutes at the end of the match, with Barnoldswick seeing out the game to claim the win and the title of Macron Cup Winners 2023/24.

Commiserations to runners-up Chadderton, who had a fine first season in the Premier Division as they finished level on points with the final play off spot, missing out on goal difference.

Congratulations to Barnoldswick Town, who had an up and down season but ended it with a new manager in charge in Steve Pickup and a Cup win to build on for next season.
