First Division North side Garstang FC have announced the appointment of their new Manager, and it's an appointment from within.
The Clubs Head of Media, Ryan Armstrong writes:
Garstang Football Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Darrell Slater-Smith as First Team Manager following a comprehensive assessment of many excellent candidates.
Ian Mountain (currently Reserve Team Assistant Manager) is promoted to First Team Assistant Manager, whilst Goalkeeping Coach Daniel Bunce and First Team Physiotherapist Ellie Higham will continue their current roles.
Darrell joined the club at the start of last season, taking on the role of Reserve Team Manager. Over the past year, along with Ian Mountain, they have rebuilt the Reserve Team squad and last season achieved a 30 point improvement (and 50% win rate) on the previous season. Darrell has created a pathway from the Reserve Team to the First Team, with many players stepping up over the last 18 months.
Prior to joining the club, Darrell was Nelson’s Development Team Manager, whilst also serving as a First Team coach. Darrell is also heavily involved in PNE’s academy, serving as PNE Ladies Manager and currently as Lead Coach for the u12s and u14s teams respectively. Additionally, he is a coach at Sir Tom Finney Soccer Centre, having previously served as Chairman.
Darrell is the holder of a UEFA B Licence, a BSc(Hons) in Sports Coaching and an FA Talent ID. He also worked as a Coach Mentor with the FA for a couple of years and implemented the introduction of Futsal Training at the PNE Academy.
The club would like to place on record their thanks to both Andy Killeen and Sam Gallagher who have led the First Team in the interim period. The board would also like to thank all those who applied for the role.
Darrell’s tenure will begin on Saturday, as they welcome Nelson FC to the Riverside.
