Runcorn Town are looking for a new manager after the resignation of Matt Barnes earlier today.
Matt was appointed manager at the end of May after Runcorn were relegated from the NWCFL Premier Division. He faced a tough task to rebuild the squad with no player remaining at the club, but results have not gone as hoped.
The backroom staff of Sean Cookson, Peter Boyle, Lewis Clemmett and Lee McDonagh will also be departing the club.
Matt said "I have today took the decision to step down from my role as manager of Runcorn Town. It’s been a full rebuild and I’m proud of that however the season hasn’t panned out the way I planned and I feel that it’s the right time for myself to step down.
"I have left the club in a place ready for a new manager to take the club to the next step. I thank everyone within the club for the trust they had in me and with them good luck for the future. I'd also like to thank the supporters for the for their support this season".
Club Chairman Lindsay Berry said "It is disappointing that the season has not gone how we both would have liked it to have gone. We thank Matt and his backroom team for their contribution, particularly the job they did in putting together a side from scratch in the summer.
"We will be making an announcement on the next steps in due course".
