Good Luck To Golcar United

It's been a successful few years at Golcar United. After more than a century of playing local football, success in the mid-teens prompted the Golcar United committee to apply for promotion up the football pyramid.
Off field they worked wonders, with the levelling of the pitch, a surrounding fence erected, installation of hard standing, a new clubhouse and floodlights installed. On the field they won the West Riding County League in 2017/18, then retained it the following year as well as adding the Huddersfield Cup.
This success meant they stepped up to the NWCFL for the first time in their history. The 2019/20 saw them on for a top five finish... and then Covid hit! Fast forward to the start of this season, and it appears that the pandemic brought the club closer together. They switched places regularly at the top of the league with Bury AFC, and were never out of the top three at any point in the season. They eventually finished third, behind Bury and Holker Old Boys, meaning a play-off place. They beat AFC Blackpool in the Semi Final, and then on a memorable day at the start of April, won the play-off to gain promotion to Step 5 of the pyramid.
With the North West Counties having two First Divisions feeding into it as well as the Northern Premier League West dropping into it, it means that every year we will lose clubs to lateral movements. The previous season it was teams at the southern end of the league in Hanley Town and Whitchurch Alport. This time it was the east as Golcar United found themselves laterally moved to the Northern Counties East. So its the NCEL Premier Division in which they will make their Step 5 debut next season.
It has been a pleasure having Golcar in the league for the short time they were with us. 72 league games, 37 wins, 11 draws and just 24 defeats. Not a bad return really. We wish them luck for the forthcoming season, with many no doubt be keeping an eye on their results this season.
