Stockport Sports have announced details of managerial changes at the club.

Darren Finch has accepted the club's offer to become a Director, and has therefore vacated the First Team Manager's position. He will be replaced by Stuart Rudd, a man with a host of experience at non-league level across the North West.

In his role as Director of Football, Darren will coach the development squad, as well as leading the apprenticeship scheme, and will head the club's Community Programme. This is a similar role to which Darren has held before whilst at Burnley, Preston North End and more recently Bury FC.

Speaking on the club website, Darren said: "I have loved every minute managing Stockport Sports FC, the interaction with the players and seeing their development has been really pleasing. However, there are a lot of things going on behind the scenes here at Stockport, including the development squad, and the new 'Apprenticeship Scheme' and the club's Community Programme.

"I have been assisting in getting these work streams up and running, and now they are ready to commence fully. I am delighted the club have offered me the opportunity to head all of these schemes, it's a huge task but I have undertaken this type of work at a number of professional clubs and I know exactly what's required. It would be impossible to take on these projects whilst remaining as first team manager, and that's the only regrettable thing".

Club Chairman Wayne Ashworth added: "Darren has been tremendous since he arrived at the club. The board has worked tirelessly for two years building the future foundations for this club and we knew Darren was the perfect candidate to take us forward. He will be extremely busy in his new role, but we are confident in his ability to drive us forward.

"I know it was a hard decision for Darren to make in vacating the hot-seat, but he fully understands the direction this club is taking, and he will play a fundamental role in that".

Moving into the managerial seat at the Sports Village, will be Stuart Rudd, a familar face to many around the NWCFL.

Wayne said: "Stuart Rudd has accepted our offer to become the first team manager. 'Ruddy' has been involved with the club for the past few years in various roles, and he has a wealth of knowledge and contacts at this level and above.

"He is very genuine and is hungry to succeed as a Manager after a very successful playing career. We identified Stuart as our man some time ago, and we're very happy indeed he accepted our offer".

Stuart Rudd said: "I have been looking to cut my teeth in management for some time. I've been scouting, coaching, and assisting for a few years now, but I've been chomping at the bit to get started as a manager in my own right.

"I know this level, I know the players, and I'm happy to say I've made some great friends over the years, and that will hopefully help me out with a few players when needed! The board at Stockport have been great to me, I signed here as a player a few years ago and they looked after me then.

"We have kept in regular contact since, meeting up at games and have always had a good respect for each other. When I got the call, I couldn't wait to come across and speak to them, but Wayne was on holiday so there's been a delay in meeting face to face. We spoke on the phone for ages, on a number of occasions, so everything was pretty much in place, but we just needed to sit down together and thrash a few things out.

"Wayne came back on Sunday and rang me straight away, the board and my team met and it was very straightforward. A pint or two later and it was handshakes all round".

Stuart has appointed Brad Maylett and Matt Broadhead as Assistant Managers. Both have served with Stockport previously, and like Stuart, have remained involved with the club over the last few years.

Wayne Ashworth said: "Brad has been with us for some time, he's a registered player for the club but has been out injured for quite a while, and Matt is a former joint-manager here. Both have fantastic knowledge of local players and non-league football, and they will provide excellent support to Stuart as well as bringing plenty of "banter' to the dressing room!".
