Mixed Fortunes For REMYCA

Litherland REMYCA manager Phil Stafford is hoping his side are now back on track after Monday night's 3-1 win at Daisy Hill.

The victory at New Sirs helped Phil banish the memories of Saturday's defeat at Ashton Town, which resulted in their first defeat of the season after two wins.

"As people could probably tell, after that game I was quite disappointed and that's putting it mildly", said Phil.

"We laid an effective game plan on a plate and it was not actioned, and that was frustrating as Ashton had done a bit of homework on us, stuck a couple of goals in past us and to be fair didn't look too troubled.

"It goes without saying that after the game I gave the lads both barrels as we were far from happy.

"On Monday we headed to Daisy Hill and things looked a lot better all round. There was more concentration and more awareness of the opposition.

"We had again done our homework and we knew that Daisy Hill had had a frustrating start compared to the way they had been last season, leaking 18 goals and scoring only three. So we knew we could be a little bit more attacking in our formation, and I think that showed on the park.

"I was pleased for Colin (McDonald) that he got his hat-trick, but I was also buoyed by the support the team gave each other as Daisy Hill were effective and had chances themselves.

"I just felt that the way things went it was like a fresh start of our campaign. I certainly feel now that we will be able to assess how our season will go after our next four games against the "Towns", Cheadle Town, Runcorn Town, St Helens Town and Stockport Town!

"This weekend we face Cheadle Town, and this will be a tough test for us, they have been scoring freely up to now so we expect to have to be sharp at the back.

"It should be a good game though, and we will be looking closely at the players because I also have one eye on the historical FA Vase tie a week later when we travel to Runcorn Town so shirts are up for grabs.

"That's a massive game for our club, it is our first ever game in the competition and we want to go there ready. "

"We are not too far off having our full squad to choose from, we have been short due to non-availability and suspensions so I know we will soon be firing on all fronts again, with the lads all in we are a different entity".
