Atherton Collieries - Champions Of Division One
Sat 25th April 2015 | Atherton Collieries | By Ian Templeman
Atherton Collieries rounded off their championship winning season with a 3-1 win over Cheadle Town at Alder House.
Matty Boland gave Colls a half time, but Cheadle Town drew level just before the hour when Thabiso Magida equalised.
But goals from Jordan Cover and Ben Hardcastle ensured that Colls ended their league campaign on a winning note, and the three points moved them on to a total of 1500 League points collected from their tenure in the NWCFL.
Their total of 96 points in winning the title this season beats the previous best points total achieved by Stand Athletic in the old Second Division in 2001/2 season, who won it with 95 points but from 40 games.
Once the final whistle blew, the title party began, and having changed into specially commissioned t-shirts, each Colls player was welcomed back on to the pitch individually by the supporters.
With the squad on the pitch, club captain Andy Heald and team captain Brad Cooke were presented with the Division One championship trophy by League Chairman Dave Tomlinson.
The pictures show Andy and Brad receiving the trophy from Dave, and the team with the trophy.
