Change Of Colours For Glossop North End

Glossop North End are commemorating their 125th anniversary by playing in a specially designed retro black and white strip this season.
The kit, as worn by long serving midfielder Darren Hamilton in the picture above, was on display for the first time in competitive action when the Hillmen won 2-0 against Squires Gate last Saturday at Surrey Street.
North End's Football Secretary Stewart Taylor explained the significance of the choice of colours.
With the club celebrating its' 125th anniversary, everyone at the club felt we had to do something to recognise such a significant landmark. We have had a turbulent history over the years, but one of our most important seasons was in 1899-1900, when we played in the First Division of the Football League.
The black and white kit we will wear this season is as close as we have been able to get to the kit that was worn by the club in that memorable season. We began planning the change before the end of last season, and with the predominance of black in the strip, we made contact initially with the League and then the FA, to make sure that the kit would be acceptable to referees.
I received a reply from Neale Barry at the FA who confirmed the kit was OK, but I will be keeping a copy of his e-mail with me on match days – just in case.”
Once the kit was ordered for the first team squad, there was bound to be interest from supporters in getting hold of replicas, and as Stewart explained, a decision was taken to preserve the uniqueness of the playing kit.
There are replica jerseys available from the club shop which have been selling well, but they have been manufactured in heavy duty material, to replicate the strip worn in 1899. That way the playing kit remains unique.
The actual shirts that the players are wearing in first team games have all been individually sponsored by individuals and businesses at a cost of £125. At the end of the season each individual sponsor will be given the shirt that they have sponsored.
"The kits have been sponsored by Bancroft Amenities, a Manchester based company who operate in the sports turf construction industry, and the company name appears on the back of the shirts.
The change of colours is purely for this season, and next season we will be back to playing in all blue as our first choice kit once more. Our traditional all blue kit will be our change strip for this season, and we will, of course, have to wear that kit when we travel to clubs wearing similar colours, such as Alsager Town, Bacup Borough and Congleton Town.”
