Saturday saw games in the Emirates FA Cup, Edward Case Cup and the League. We caught up with several NWCFL Managers after the games to give their thoughts on the games.

 Emirates FA Cup

CONGLETON TOWN MANAGER RICHARD DUFFY ON HIS SIDES 4-0 WIN AT ABBEY HEY

"A very good win for us today to put us into the next round of the Cup which is always the main objection. It was a very sloppy start for us really and we didn’t get started, however two bits of real quality put us 2-0 up at half time and in control of the game.
"It was a much better second half and performance and could of been a bigger score line in the end. I was pleased we kept our concentration though and managed to get a clean sheet. I was disappointed with the sending off, but it seemed to of got us focused and in to gear. A good day all round

KENDAL TOWN'S JIMMY MARSHALL ON HIS SIDES WIN AWAY AT THORNABY

"Today was another tough fixture with a trip across to Thornaby in the North East. It was really important that we responded after our previous two defeats but I had faith in the group of players we have got together during the summer.

"There have been plenty of positives and negatives in the first two performances which is to be expected as we have almost built a squad from scratch but the effort and endeavour has always been there.

"Todays game was a tricky one against a team who went well last season and the first half was a tight affair but once we tweaked a couple of things tactically I thought we controlled the second half creating plenty of chances and scoring three good goals through Fin Lynch, Ben Thomas and Tom Kilifin. We will now try and use todays result and performance as a springboard for our North West Counties League campaign."

ASHTON ATHLETIC'S JAY FOULDS ON HIS SIDES 1-1 AT PRESCOT CABLES

"As a team we had mixed emotions at full time. To be leading until the 93rd minute and to finish 1-1 was hard to take but that’s football. If someone had offered me a replay before the game I would have taken it.

"Prescot are a very good side with very good players. There wasn’t many clear cut chances for both sides but I think we had the best of them. I thought as a team we followed the game plan to perfection, ultimately enforced changes due to injuries meant we had to reshuffle and Prescot managed to get the break through. Our work rate, desire and organisation was outstanding.

"If we can replicate this performance Tuesday we will give ourselves a good chance of being in the hat for the next round."

WINSFORD UNITED MANAGER LEE DUCKWORTH ON HIS SIDES 1-1 DRAW WITH WIDNES

"It was always going to be difficult against a Northern Premier League side, but sitting here after the game I am disappointed not to get the win. Widnes are a good strong side and we’d done a lot of work on them. They started very strong and it took us a while to settle but after we did we should probably have gone on to win the game.

"We go again Tuesday and we know it’ll be a difficult task but we will go into the game with a lot of confidence on the back of today's result. We are still waiting on lads come back so hopefully we’ll continue to improve as the season goes on."

ECCLESHALL MANAGER LIAM KELLY ON HIS SIDES 2-1 WIN AT ASHVILLE

"It was a gritty away performance today where we weren’t perhaps at our best but it’s all about getting the job done especially in cup football. Like us Ashville have got off to a good start to the season and they made it a difficult afternoon so full credit to them and they’re a good addition to the league.

"From our perspective to make it three wins from three is the perfect start to the season and we will look to keep building on it. "

EUXTON VILLA MANAGER MATTY ATHERTON ON HIS SIDES 3-2 AT BACUP BOROUGH

"Like any manager, it’s great to get off with a win in your first game of the season and this is no different! I think it should provide us with confidence to go and mix it with any team in the league, as unlike other teams that have come out of the West Lancs such as Charnock and Longridge, we haven’t come up after winning what is a really strong league.

"However we are really proud of the group of players we have assembled, many who’ve been at the club a long time, as they know what it means to play for a club like Euxton and what we are asking of them.

"We are not going to get carried away with ourselves however after one good result as this is a really competitive division where any team can beat anyone else on there day, but if we can approach every game as we did today then we should be able to achieve our minimum expectation of staying in Counties football this season."

FC ST HELENS JOINT MANAGER OLI MACBRYDE ON HIS SIDES 5-1 WIN OVER DARWEN

"Obviously we are really pleased with the result and our performance. We had a game plan and executed it perfectly - we always like to start fast at Windleshaw and yesterday was a perfect example of that. After missing chances in our previous fixture, I was delighted to see our forwards were clinical in front of goal and their work rate off the ball was exceptional throughout.

"At times we had to dig deep and stay focused, Darwen are excellent at working the ball into wide spaces and delivering crosses into the box, this makes them a constant threat, especially with the amount of runners they have constantly getting into the box.

"Overall it was a great result which will provide us with some added confidence heading into Tuesday’s fixture at Runcorn."

ABBEY HULTON MANAGER RUSSELL LEADBETTER AS HIS SIDE BEAT ABBEY HULTON ON PENALTIES

"A win on penalties wasn’t what we wanted from the game but we will take it as we are in the next round.

"The first half we perhaps should have scored three or four goals but couldn’t find the net, something we have to improve on quickly if we are to do well this season. The second half we let Stockport into the game a bit more, which gives us things to work on in training and upcoming matches.

"However to win the game from 1-0 down, even on penalties, is a good result."

ILKLEY TOWN MANAGER SAM DEXTER AFTER HIS SIDES SECOND 3-0 WIN OF THE SEASON OVER RUNCORN TOWN

"The 3-0 win against Runcorn was a fantastic way to start our season at home. We made a couple of changes from the away win against Darwen the previous week, which shows the trust we have to use the whole squad and we felt we should have put the game to bed by half time.

"The second half was a lot closer and fortunately for us we managed to find the second and third goals which was really pleasing. We now have to focus on a very tough test away at Bacup Borough in mid week, but we will be travelling full of confidence after our two wins so far.’

GARSTANG MANAGER ZACH CLARK AFTER HIS SIDES 5-3 WIN OVER BACUP BOROUGH

"I’m delighted to back up last weeks result and maintain maximum points so far in the league. I couldn’t have asked for more, winning the first game is a great feeling to get the ball rolling, but too back it up with another win is superb.

"Although I am disappointed to concede three goals at home, I can’t take anything away from our attacking threat and variety of scorers having scored with five different scorers which was pleasing to see. The first half could have gone either way, with us putting our noses in front twice, but we we’re pegged back by Bacup on both occasions.

"As the game progressed we managed to get a foot hold of the game and controlled the second half, finishing strongly."

CHEADLE TOWN MANAGER PAUL MARSHALL ON HIS SIDES 3-1 WIN AT CAMMELL LAIRD 1907

"I thought my lads were excellent today and its pleasing to be returning to Manchester after picking up all three points. After going a goal down we showed great character to get back into the game then to go on to win it. We limited the opposition to minimal shots and I thought we dominated the game.

"I would like to single out Danny Hewitt who was brilliant today after dealing with some personal issues this past week so full credit to him for today."
