With the FA Vase taking Centre-stage this weekend it is an opportunity for those not involved to make some headway in their respective Divisions. There are nine games taking place this Saturday, three in each division, so we will preview them under one banner this week!

Starting with the Premier Division, it has not been a good week for Charnock Richard FC, they announced at the beginning of the week that club legend Carl Grimshaw would be leaving the club after 12 years. Then on Thursday evening they were beaten 4-0 by Lower Breck, leaving them 12th in the table. They will be looking to bounce back this weekend as they host Padiham at Mossie Park. Padiham arrive sitting 19th in the table and without a win in their last seven in all competitions, however they did get a very credible point at home to Congleton last weekend.

Longridge Town welcome Vauxhall Motors to The Mike Riding Ground on Saturday. Both go into this game off some good results, Longridge progressing in the Lancashire Challenge Trophy in midweek with a penalties win over Garstang and prior to that they had beaten league leaders, Macclesfield 4-2 on Monday. Vauxhall have also had a good week with successive wins over Barnoldwick and Winsford United. Only a point separates these two sides who are both challenging in the top eight of the table.

The other game taking place in the Premier Division sees Squires Gate host Ashton Athletic. Both of these sides are in the bottom four at the moment, both very capable of getting away from there though but need quick points. Squires Gate have lost their last four in all competitions, their last outing was a home defeat to Avro last weekend. Ashton Athletic are without a win in their last five, their last game being a 4-3 home defeat to Prestwich Heys last weekend.

In to Division One North, AFC Blackpool host Ilkley Town this weekend, looking to maintain the pressure on the teams at the top. They have had a sweet idea to reward the fans who have been returning to The Mechanics stadium in numbers of late by offering patrons a free hot drink and chocolate bar. No more puns from us on that, we did them all in the article yesterday!

St Helens Town are currently 18th in the table and they face a tricky looking trip to The Players Cars Stadium to take on Campion AFC who currently sit a place above them in 17th. St Helens are without a win this season and will be keen to change that ahead of a tough looking October for them as they are due to face the likes of Golcar, Bury and Bacup. Despite their low position in the table, Campion have had a fruitful last couple of games with four points taken from the encounters with Daisy Hill and Chadderton.

AFC Darwen are a place ahead of Campion in 16th and they travel to Ashton Town this weekend. Darwen are six points clear of the drop zone but a win for them this week could see them into mid-table, which is where Ashton Town are at the moment. A win for Town could see them on the brink of the top five.

Division One South also has three games this weekend and all of the games could have an impact towards the lower half of the table. Cammell Laird 1907 in 15th host Rocester who are currently 19th in the table at present. Lairds recorded their first win in seven in the Wirral Senior Cup in midweek but needed a penalty shoot out to see of Shaftesbury, however a win is a win and they will be hoping that proves a catalyst for them as they try and get clear of any bother. Rocester were beaten 1-0 at home by Barnton last weekend and go into this one off the back of three straight defeats. A win for Rocester puts the pressure on the sides immediately above them. One of those clubs are Matt Jansen’s Stockport Town whom are currently 17th in the table, they host Abbey Hulton United this weekend who are currently eighth in the table. A win for Stockport could see them move to the lower reaches of mid-table, however an Abbey Hulton win, such is the state of the table at present will only see them consolidate their current table position. A sign of what we have said over the last few weeks that the sides at the top of the two Division One’s are starting to break away.

Barnton host Brocton at Townfield in the other game of the day. Both of these clubs are mid-table at present and both will be looking to keep some distance between themselves and the compact bottom 6/7 teams, all of whom who will have them in their sights.
