St. Martins FC have appointed Paul Jones as Assistant Manager to James Etherington for the season 2021/22.

With a wealth of experience in the youth game, Jones comes to St. Martins having established the U21s last season at Winsford United. Paul has also coached in the Manchester City Youth Academy and held other managerial roles at Witton Albion Reserves, Cheadle Town U21s, Maine Road Reserves, Wythenshawe Town Reserves, Greater Manchester Schools U18s and Altrincham U18s.

Paul started his managerial career at Winnington Avenue winning the Crewe & District League then moving on to manage Denton Town in the Cheshire Premier League for a short spell.

“It was a bit of a shock when James contacted me to discuss coming in as his No.2 but after we met it was clear we both shared ideas about how we wanted to play and it was a very quick decision for me to accept this role. It’s going to be a really challenging season ahead and I want to give James all the help and support for the coming season.”

Along his journey in football management and coaching, Paul has suffered from racial abuse directly and via social media but this has only served to make him more determined to succeed within the game. “I want to thank St. Martins and James for giving me this opportunity. It’s very important that clubs such as ours and higher give opportunities to managers and coaches of minority races.”

During his playing career Paul has represented Altrincham FC, Oldham Athletic, Mossley, Maine Road, Chadderton, Flixton and Winsford United.

St. Martins start the 2021/21 season in the North West Counties South on Saturday 31st July with a home tie versus Abbey Hulton United with a 3pm KO at The Park Hall Stadium.
