All three of our NWCFL clubs that were in action in the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday afternoon can hold their heads firmly high despite all exiting the competition at the 2nd Qualifying Round stage - as the world's oldest cup competition returned.

Irlam had their kick-off brought forward to 12:30pm to accommodate the BBC, but they went down 2-0 to full-timers York City with 798 watching on and thousands watching online. 1874 Northwich narrowly lost 1-0 to Whitby Town, whilst Runcorn Town lost 3-1 late on against NationalLeague North side Farsley Celtic.

In the Premier Division, Rylands extended their lead at the summit to three points with a 4-2 victory over Congleton Town - Andy Scarisbrick bagging a brace.

Northwich Victoria were the biggest winners of the day with a 6-1 win against Burscough, meanwhile Hanley Town recorded a fine 3-0 win at home against Barnoldswick Town and Charnock Richard finished the weekend in ninth after their 4-1 victory over Winsford United.

Ashton Athletic sneaked a 2-1 victory over Avro, whilst Bootle came back from Padiham with three points following their 3-1 win. Longridge Town maintained their fine start to the campaign, winning 4-1 at Skelmersdale United.

There was a full fixture list in the First Division North on Saturday, with the top two sides both winning. Lower Breck defeated Prestwich Heys 4-0, whilst Dylan Glass's brace guided Ashton Town to a 4-1 win away at St Helens Town.

Chadderton had a fine 3-0 win away at Atherton LR, whilst a 90th minute Andrew Murphy winner gifted Garstang an impressive 4-3 away win at Cleator Moor Celtic.

138 fans saw Emley AFC come from behind against Nelson to record a 2-1 win, whilst just a few miles away Golcar United moved up to 8th with a 3-1 victory over AFC Darwen.

Holker Old Boys managed to get their goal difference back into the positive as they won 4-1 at home against Shelley - Samuel Joel bagging a hat-trick on a fine afternoon in the North West.

AFC Blackpool managed to come from behind against Pilkington - winning 2-1 with Joe Robinson netting the winner in the 80th minute.

And finally, Bacup Borough against AFC Liverpool and Daisy Hill against Steeton both ended goal less.

In the First Division South, the top three sides all won. Vauxhall Motors beat Cheadle Town 4-2, FC Oswestry Town had to wait until the last minute to secure their 2-1 win against Wythenshawe Town, whilst Stone Old Alleynians secured a 2-0 away win at high flyers West Didsbury & Chorlton.

The biggest margin of victory came at Ellesmere Rangers but it was the away side Maine Road who was celebrating as they won 6-1 after initially going behind in the 12th minute.

Cammell Laird 1907 bagged a 3-0 win away at Sandbach United, whilst Abbey Hey recorded a 3-1 win against St Martins.

Cheadle Heath Nomads and Wythenshawe Amateurs battled out a 1-1 draw, meanwhile, Eccleshall won 2-0 against Stockport Town.

New Mills and Alsager Town also drew 1-1 to round off another great afternoon's entertainment in the NWCFL.

On Friday evening, Abbey Hulton United grabbed a 2-0 win under the lights at Barnton to end the weekend in the top half of the table.
