AFC Blackpool finished a credible 13th in the North West Counties Division One North last season, and after a mid-term managerial change which saw Martin Baird take over from David Worthington, he cannot wait to get started in the new campaign.

"Last season was a transition period from when I took over as manager at Christmas after David Worthington stepped down. I took the role on a temporary basis as I was doing sessions for Worthy and I knew the club pretty well from being involved in numerous roles over the years.

"We wanted to bring new ideas to the fold as any new management would but what wanted to build was a project where the lads had a philosophy that they all wanted to be part of and the club was getting a DNA that people wanted to be involved with and watch.

"We have been delighted with how well the lads have brought into it with us always thinking long term knowing that if you believe in the process results will follow. I’ve always wanted to build something different to how some may do it as I feel that’s what people enjoy watching and being part of."

Looking ahead, Baird is hoping for a successful season, "Going forward we want to turn performances into results, as it’s all been a learning curve it’s been brilliant seeing lads who weren’t sure at first now believing you can play this football at this level. But what we do need to start doing is taking care of the old cliches which for me carries on in football at any level which is grinding out results when you aren’t at your best or dealing with the physical aspects of the game especially at this level.

"We know what areas we wanted to strengthen and we feel we have done that this summer so we’re all really excited to start the hard work."
