Anyone who didn’t visit New Mills’ Church Lane ground during their last spell in our League, can get a taster of how it looks by tuning into Sky 1 next week.

The Millers’ ground is featured in the outdoor scenes in the new Sky 1 comedy series “Rovers”, which begins on Sky 1 on Tuesday 24th May at 10 pm, and is set in the run down clubhouse of Redbridge Rovers FC, and

The outdoor filming took place in October 2015 at Church Lane, and the ground, stand and entrance will be clearly visible during the series, although all the shots from inside the "Rovers" clubhouse were filmed in a studio.

This six part comedy series drops in on the lives of the indomitable fans of Redbridge Rovers - a struggling lower league football team.

The series is about relationships rather than football, and focusses on the relationships of all the people who spend time in the football club. It centres around a group of non-league football fans who are passionate about the same team, but are very different individuals who through the love of Redbridge Rovers share hilarious banter and stories.

Some familiar faces will appear in the show, most notably Craig Cash who plays Pete, the die-hard fan of the struggling club.

Craig is best known from his role as Dave, a character from the BBC1 comedy The Royle Family. Craig produces and stars in the brand-new original comedy and it is the first time Craig has been in front of the cameras since starring in The Royle Family.

The series is written by comedians and friends Joe Wilkinson (Him & Her, 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown) and David Earl (Derek) who also make appearances as Pete's bearded nemeses, wind-up merchants Bruce and Lee.

The slightly dotty club bar manager is played by actress Sue Johnston, who also featured in the Royle Family. She plays Doreen, a character whose late husband was a legendary player at Redbridge Rovers in the 70s, and Doreen is the heart and soul of Redbridge's clubhouse.

As well as pulling pints and making the post-match sarnies, she's the source of all the gossip in the clubhouse and her meat raffles are legendary.

The Sky billing for the show says:

“Set in the run down club house of Redbridge Rovers FC, share in the lives, loves and passions of the team’s loyal and passionate supporters - a far cry from the glitz and glamour, ludicrous wages and money hungry players associated with modern day football”.

Watch on Sky 1, starting Tuesday 24th May at 10pm.
