Drainage Work Planned At Irlam

Irlam will be carrying out drainage work on the pitch at Silver Street in May, following receipt of a grant from IGas Energy, an onshore oil and gas exploration company.
The company, who are carrying out fracking exploration work in the area, gave the club a grant of £15,000 a couple of years ago to carry out extensive drainage work on the pitch, and the new grant money of £3000 will enable the club to carry out additional repair work.
Secretary Warren Dodd explained: "After receiving money from IGas previously, when we heard that they were inviting applications from local organisations for further grant money, we weren't sure if we would be considered after receiving money from them a couple of years ago.
"We decided to apply for £4000 to cover the cost of secondary drainage work, and were happy when we heard the news that we had been given £3000.
"The money will be used to carry work on the one area of the pitch that gives us a problem , which is an area in both halves of the field on the stand side of the ground.
"Our pitch generally drains quite well apart from that area, and it is that area that has caused games to be postponed this season, rather than the whole pitch being a problem. We haven't done too badly compared to anyone else with regard to games being called off this season, but we are hoping that once the work is completed, the pitch will be in even better shape.
"The work will start as soon as the season finishes in May, so everything will be in place for the start of the new season".
