Development League Update

We have been in discussions with a number of clubs and Sporting Academies in the past week about the progression of the North West Counties League's U21/U23 Development League.

It is one of our big ticket items in our NWCFL Development Plan.

Consultation has taken place between Andy Nelson and myself over a realistic and viable start date, structure and logistics for the league, and as a result there have been a number of discussions at various levels.

We have also had a number of clubs contact us over the last week to discuss the prospect of the league and because of this, we have looked at what we have available, the number of clubs, and the logistics required to give a realistic date that we can get everything in place.

Our problem at present is that when the North West Counties Reserve League disbanded, a number of clubs quite rightly sourced local leagues to enter their sides and many of which under their own steam have evolved reserve sides into development teams anyway. Understandably, a number of clubs are hesitant to withdraw from leagues to rejoin a NWCFL equivalent, until something concrete is in place and this is part of our thinking.

We have concluded that the NWCFL Development League will not be ready to 'Go Live' until the start of the 2017-18 season, so our advice to clubs looking to get your Development teams sorted is to get yourselves covered for the 2016-17 season.  We will put out due consultation later in the year for structure and nominees for Development sides, with a view to starting for the 2017-18 season subject to a confirmed amount of sides and concrete logistics being in place.
